Mindfulness towards Freed Slave Husband

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised a woman to be mindful of her Lord when it comes to her freed slave husband.

'A'isha reported that the husband of Barirah was a slave.

QUICK LESSONS:
Treat former slaves with respect and kindness; Be mindful towards God in all aspects; Fulfill obligations towards God; Show dignity for all people regardless their past status as slaves or not .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a woman named Barirah whose husband was a slave who was freed by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . When she went to him with news that her husband had been emancipated, he asked if she had any property and upon learning that she did not have any, he advised her to be mindful of God in regards to her former slave husband. This teaches us that even though someone may have been enslaved before, they should still be treated with respect and kindness as they are now free people who deserve dignity just like anyone else. We should also remember our obligations towards God in all aspects of our lives including how we treat those around us regardless if they were once slaves or not.
