Mourning Periods for Women

SUMMARY: It is not permissible for a woman to observe mourning on the dead for more than three days, except in case of her husband.

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported Allah's Messenger as saying: It is not permissible for a woman believing in Allah and the Hereafter to observe mourning on the dead for more than three (days), except in case of her husband.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow religious teachings even when grieving someone's death

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that it is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Hereafter to observe mourning on the dead for more than three days, except in case of her husband. This means that if a woman's relative or friend passes away, she should only mourn them for three days and no longer. However, if it is her husband who has passed away then she can mourn him as long as she wishes. This hadith teaches us that we should respect our religion and follow its teachings even when we are grieving someone's death. We should also remember that although we may feel sad about someone passing away, we must still abide by the rules set out by our religion so that we can stay true to our faith and beliefs.
