Sahih Muslim 1479d (Book 18, Hadith 43) #10831
Asking for Worldly Riches During the Lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's wives, Aisha and Hafsa, who asked for worldly riches during his lifetime.

Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) is reported to have said: I intended to ask Umar about those two ladies who had pressed for (worldly riches) during the lifetime of the Prophet , and I kept waiting for one year, but found no suitable opportunity with him until I happened to accompany him to Mecca. And as he reached Marr al Zahran he went away to answer the call of nature, and he said (to me): Bring me a jug of water, and I took that to him. After having answered the call of nature, as he came back, I began to pour water (over his hands and feet), and I remembered (this event of separation of Allah's Apostle may peace be upon him from his wives). So I said to him: Commander of the Faithful, who are the two ladies (who had pressed the Prophet may peace be upon him for providing comforts of life) and I had not yet finished my talk when he said: They were 'A'isha and Hafsa.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect those around you regardless of any differences between you; Focus on your spiritual journey with Allah; Be patient when seeking answers or knowledge; Do not be too focused on material possessions in life .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about two of the wives of Prophet Muhammad, Aisha and Hafsa. During his lifetime they asked him for worldly riches such as money or possessions. Ibn Abbas wanted to ask Umar about this event but he waited a year before finding an opportunity to do so. When he finally did get a chance to ask Umar, he was pouring water over his hands and feet when it came back to him. Umar then revealed that it was indeed Aisha and Hafsa who had asked for these things from the prophet during his lifetime. This hadith teaches us that we should not be too focused on material possessions in life but rather focus on our spiritual journey with Allah instead. We should also remember that even though we may have disagreements with those around us, we should still treat them with respect as they are still our brothers and sisters in faith regardless of any differences between us.
