Sahih Muslim 1468a (Book 17, Hadith 80) #10784
Kindness Towards Women

SUMMARY: This hadith emphasizes the importance of speaking kindly and treating women with respect.

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Apostle as saying: He who believes in Allah and the Hereafter, if he witnesses any matter he should talk in good terms about it or keep quiet. Act kindly towards woman, for woman is created from a rib, and the most crooked part of the rib is its top. If you attempt to straighten it, you will break it, and if you leave it, its crookedness will remain there. So act kindly towards women.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Abu Huraira, emphasizes the importance of speaking kindly and treating women with respect. It is said that Allah created woman from a rib, and that the most crooked part of a rib is its top. The Prophet Muhammad is teaching us that if we try to straighten it out too much, it will break; so we should be kind to women instead. We should also remember to believe in Allah and the Hereafter when witnessing any matter; if we cannot speak positively about something then it's best to remain silent. These teachings remind us to be mindful of our words and actions towards others, especially women.
