The Benefits of Marriage

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of marriage and how it is a good thing to do.

Jabir b. 'Abdullah (Allah be pleased with them) reported Allah's Messenger said to me: Jabir, have you married? The rest of the hadith is the same up to (the words):" The woman would look after them and comb them". He (Allah's Messenger), said: You did well. But no mention is made of the subsequent portion.
وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏"‏ هَلْ نَكَحْتَ يَا جَابِرُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ امْرَأَةً تَقُومُ عَلَيْهِنَّ وَتَمْشُطُهُنَّ قَالَ ‏"‏ أَصَبْتَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ مَا بَعْدَهُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of marriage and how it is a good thing to do. It was narrated by Jabir b. 'Abdullah who reported that Allah's Messenger said to him "Jabir, have you married?". The Prophet then praised him for his decision and encouraged him to take care of his wife and children. He also mentioned that the woman would look after them and comb them which shows that both spouses should take care of each other in their marriage. This hadith teaches us the importance of companionship in marriage as well as taking responsibility for one another's needs within a marital relationship.
