QUICK LESSONS:
Follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) regarding marriage practices
EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith of Jabir b. Abdullah states that Allah's Messenger prohibited the practice of Shighar, which is an exchange marriage between two families without any payment or dowry from either side. This type of marriage was seen as a way to avoid paying dowries and was thus discouraged by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in order to protect women’s rights and ensure that they are treated with respect and dignity in their marriages. The Prophet ﷺ also wanted to ensure that all marriages were conducted with fairness and justice, so he forbade this type of exchange marriage as it could lead to unfairness or exploitation on either side.
