Sahih Muslim 1376a (Book 15, Hadith 546) #10481
Praying for Health and Prosperity in Medina

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) prayed to Allah to make Medina a healthy and pleasant place for the Muslims who had migrated there.

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: When we came to Medina, and it was an unhealthy, uncongenial place, Abu Bakr fell sick and Bilal also fell sick; and when Allah's Messenger saw the illness of his Companions he said: O Allah, make Medina as congenial to us as you made Mecca congenial or more than that; make it conducive to health, and bless us in its sa' and in its mudd, and transfer its fever to al-juhfa.

QUICK LESSONS:
Turn towards Allah during difficult times . Show care & compassion towards others . Have faith & gratitude towards God .

EXPLANATIONS:
When the Muslims migrated from Mecca to Medina, they found it an unhealthy place. Abu Bakr and Bilal both fell ill due to this. Seeing his companions suffer from illness made Prophet Muhammad concerned. He then prayed to Allah that He would make Medina as pleasant as Mecca or even more so; that it would become conducive to health and bring blessings in its measure of food and water. His prayer was answered by Allah Almighty who transferred the fever of Medina away from its people into al-Juhfa. This hadith teaches us that we should always turn towards Allah in times of difficulty or distress; He is our only source of help and comfort in times of need. It also shows us how much care Prophet Muhammad had for his companions; he was willing to do anything he could for their well-being even if it meant praying fervently on their behalf.
