The Reward of Performing Hajj for Children

SUMMARY: A woman asked the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) if her child would be credited with having performed Hajj and he said yes, and that she would also receive a reward.

Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) reported: A woman lifted up her child and said: Messenger of Allah, would the child be credited with having performed the Hajj? Thereupon he said: Yes, and there would be a reward for you.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ، عُقْبَةَ عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ رَفَعَتِ امْرَأَةٌ صَبِيًّا لَهَا فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلِهَذَا حَجٌّ قَالَ ‏ "‏ نَعَمْ وَلَكِ أَجْرٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the reward of performing Hajj for children. It was narrated by Ibn Abbas who reported that a woman lifted up her child and asked the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) if her child would be credited with having performed Hajj. The Prophet replied in the affirmative and said that she too will receive a reward for it. This hadith teaches us to encourage our children to perform religious duties such as performing Hajj from an early age so they can reap its rewards in this life and hereafter. It also teaches us to have faith in Allah's mercy as even small acts of worship are rewarded generously by Him.
