Halting at Abtah

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the practice of halting at Abtah, and how it was done by Abu Bakr, Umar and Ibn Umar. It also mentions that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) halted there as it was easy to depart from that place.

Salim reported that Abu Bakr, 'Umar and Ibn Umar used to halt at Abtah'.Urwa narrated from 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) that he did not observe this practice and said: Allah's Messenger halted there, for it is a place from where it was easy to depart.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرَ، وَابْنَ، عُمَرَ كَانُوا يَنْزِلُونَ الأَبْطَحَ ‏.‏ قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ وَأَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّهَا لَمْ تَكُنْ تَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ وَقَالَتْ إِنَّمَا نَزَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ لأَنَّهُ كَانَ مَنْزِلاً أَسْمَحَ لِخُرُوجِهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about the practice of halting at a place called Abtah. It is narrated by Salim who reported from 'A'isha that Abu Bakr, Umar and Ibn Umar used to halt there. Furthermore, Allah's Messenger also halted there as it was easy to depart from that place. This hadith teaches us the importance of taking rest while travelling and how even Prophet Muhammad himself followed this practice in order to make his journey easier. We can learn from this hadith that we should take breaks during our travels so we can be refreshed for our next destination.
