The Significance of Talbiya at Muzdalifa

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was heard pronouncing Talbiya at Muzdalifa.

'Abdullah narrated to us as we had gathered (at Muzdalifa): I have heard from one upon whom Surah al-Baqara was revealed (the Holy Prophet) pronouncing Talbiya at this place.
وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ مُدْرِكٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَنَحْنُ بِجَمْعٍ سَمِعْتُ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ يَقُولُ فِي هَذَا الْمَقَامِ ‏ "‏ لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the significance of pronouncing the talbiya at a place called Muzdalifah during the pilgrimage to Makkah. It is narrated by Abdullah that he heard Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) pronounce talbiya when they were gathered in this place. The word ‘talbiyah’ comes from an Arabic root word which means ‘to respond’ or ‘to answer’, and it is a special phrase that pilgrims recite during Hajj and Umrah to declare their intention to perform these rituals. By reciting this phrase, pilgrims are expressing their commitment to fulfill all the obligations of Hajj or Umrah with sincerity and devotion.
