Kissing Stones in Respect

SUMMARY: Umar kissed the stone as he had seen the Prophet Muhammad do it, even though he knew it was just a stone.

Abis b. Rabi'a reported: I saw 'Umar (Allah'be pleased with him) kissing the Stone and saying: I am kissing you and I know that you are a stone. And if I had not seen Allah's Messenger kissing you, I would not have kissed you.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect for things even if they are not alive or have no feelings

EXPLANATIONS:
Umar was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad and saw him kiss a stone. Even though Umar knew that this stone was not alive, he still respected it enough to kiss it out of respect for what the Prophet had done. This teaches us that we should always show respect for things, even if they are not alive or have no feelings. We should also follow in the footsteps of our beloved prophet and try to emulate his actions whenever possible.
