Routes of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to enter and exit Medina and Mecca from specific routes.

Ibn 'Umar reported that Allah's Messenger used to come out (of Medina) by way of al-Shajarah and entered it by the way of al-Mu'arras and whenever he entered Mecca, he entered it from the upper side and went out of it from the lower side.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَانَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ طَرِيقِ الشَّجَرَةِ وَيَدْخُلُ مِنْ طَرِيقِ الْمُعَرَّسِ وَإِذَا دَخَلَ مَكَّةَ دَخَلَ مِنَ الثَّنِيَّةِ الْعُلْيَا وَيَخْرُجُ مِنَ الثَّنِيَّةِ السُّفْلَى

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the routes that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to take when entering or exiting Medina and Mecca. He would enter Medina by way of al-Shajarah and leave it by way of al-Mu'arras. When entering Mecca he would do so from the upper side and leave it from the lower side. This hadith teaches us that we should follow in the footsteps of our beloved prophet ﷺ in all aspects of life including how we travel between cities. We should also strive to emulate his example in other areas such as how we interact with people around us or how we spend our time each day.
