Sahih Muslim 1215 (Book 15, Hadith 151) #10086
Circumambulating Al-Safa and Al-Marwa Once

SUMMARY: The hadith explains that the Prophet Muhammad and his companions only performed one circumambulation between al-Safa and al-Marwa for Hajj and 'Umra.

Jabir b. Abdullah is reported to have said: Neither Allah's Apostle nor his Companions (circumambulated the Ka'ba and) ran between al-Safa and al-Marwa but once (sufficing both for Hajj and 'Umra). But in the hadith transmitted by Muhammad b. Bakr there is an addition:" That is first circumambulation".

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform religious rituals with mindfulness & obedience
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the practice of circumambulating between al-Safa and al-Marwa during Hajj or 'Umra. It is reported by Jabir b. Abdullah that neither the Prophet Muhammad nor his companions ran between these two places more than once. This means that they only performed one circumambulation which was sufficient for both Hajj and 'Umra. This shows us how important it is to be mindful of our actions when performing religious rituals as even a single act can be enough to fulfill our obligations.
