Killing Certain Animals in Ihram

SUMMARY: Killing of certain animals is allowed even in the state of Ihram.

A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported Allah's Messenger as saying: Five are the vicious beasts which should be killed even in the state of Ihram: scorpion, rat, kite, crow and voracious dog.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ زَيْدٍ - حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ، عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، - رضى الله عنها - قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ خَمْسٌ فَوَاسِقُ يُقْتَلْنَ فِي الْحَرَمِ الْعَقْرَبُ وَالْفَارَةُ وَالْحُدَيَّا وَالْغُرَابُ وَالْكَلْبُ الْعَقُورُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that it is permissible to kill certain animals even when one is in the state of Ihram. The five animals mentioned are scorpion, rat, kite, crow and voracious dog. These animals are considered vicious and thus can be killed without any guilt or sin. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of our actions and not to harm any living creature unnecessarily as it may lead to sinning. It also teaches us that there are some exceptions where killing an animal may be necessary for self-defense or other reasons, but we should still try our best not to do so unless absolutely necessary.
