Assalamu'Alaikum Dear Sisters,
Sr. Almostthere,
I shop several stores online. I don't really go out that much shopping unless my hubby is with me. My two oldest boys ages 14 and 16 qualify to be my Mahram but I still prefer to leave most of everything up to my hubby and help out by shopping online.
The least expensive stores online that I have found have been:
1. http://www.islamicbookstore.com - http://www.islamicbookstore.com
2. Also here at this site, if you have a membership you get an additional discount which is wonderful.
3. I would suggest on ebay a store called Imedia that is run by a very nice sr. and her husband and it's all Islamic media items....
Sr. Rookaiya,
Eid for us is a very big occasion whenever it falls during the calendar year.
We start our day with going to the masjid we always go to the earliest prayer because our family rule is no presents/goodies until we've gone to Eid prayer.
This year I'm making Pot Roast and Roast Lamb so I'll season it the night before and pop it in the oven on low when we get up to leave for masjid that way it will be ready around lunch time.
When we get home the kids get to open their presents they will be Insha'Allah all wrapped and decorated and than we have some tea and sweets and spend family time.
Almost always we stop to see friends between Asr and Magrib time or they come to see us sometimes after Isha prayer as well.
We have decorations that say Eid Mubarak and during Ramadan we hang decorations and lights for all of Ramadan that say Ramadan Mubarak....
Our entire family about 2 days before we expect Eid decorate the house with lights and banners and Balloons on sparkling garlands that say "Happpy Eid"
I did order Eid balloons Insha'Allah they'll arrive in time if not I'll go buy plain balloons....
I start baking sweets about a week before Eid.
For Eid'Ul"Fitr we do the same thing accept we almost always have Turkey with our meal because the kids love it and We know a BR. that has a Halal only poultry farm/shop that gives us a good price on Turkey every year.
We don't celebrate new years or any other holidays like that so this year if Eid does fall on new years it will for us just be a regular Eid.
Insha'Allah, you will get to go to Salat soon with your children....
I think the boys always make extra effort to be good in prayer because they know that if they're not than I won't let them have any of the sweets the masjid provides after prayer and I will delay the opening of Eid gifts at home until they have had adequate time to reflect on their behavior...My boys now are older and have been praying salat and sitting quietly for khutbah since they were 4-5 years so Alhamdulillah you'll get to that point as well.....
