Assalamu alaykum,

Jibreel a.s. taught our Prophet saws to make a salat every time he has a question, need, wish... and it was the only way to properly communicate with Allah.

Now I wonder how to do it. Is it on kiyam after reciting surah, on sajda or after salam? Or, do we need to think of a question, need, wish while performing regular salat?

Thanks

What evidence from Quran or Hadith states the above?

If someone else can provide it that would be awesome. But, I read it and heard it lots of times while being into sirah...

Wa’alaikumussalam Atra,

Salat is besides the characteristics of a Muslim is also one of the closest ways to communicate with Allah because in prostration is the closest time to Allah, and if you understood from the content of the reading in the salat movements, there are du'a, but if you want additional du'a or other du'a then do so at the prostration as advocated by the Prophet Muhammad:

قْرَبُ مَا يَكُوْنُ الْعَبْدُ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَهُوَسَاجِدْ فَاَ كْثِرُواالدُّعَاءَ اَ

“The closest connection between a servant and his/her Lord when being prostration, then multiply your du'a at that moment” (Narrated by Imam Muslim).
