ISLAM is derived from the Arabic root "SALEMA": peace, purity, submission and obedience. In the religious sense, Islam means submission to the will of God and obedience to His law. Everything and every phenomenon in the world, other than man is administered TOTALLY by God-made laws i.e. they are obedient to God and submissive to His laws i.e. they are in the STATE OF ISLAM. Man possesses the quality of intelligence and choice, thus he is invited to submit to the good will of God and obey His law ie. become a Muslim. Submission to the good will of God, together with obedience to His beneficial law, i.e. becoming a Muslim is the best safeguard for man's peace and harmony. |

According to my limited understanding and knowledge, Islam comes in the category of religion but some Scholars claim that the term "Religion" refers to a specific "School of Thought".
Now if we count "Islam" in the category of "Religion" according to what these Scholars say about the term "Religion", then I think we are doing injustice with Islam as Islam is not a "School of Thought" . Islam is not just a religion but it is more than a religion,it is a complete way of life or a comprehensive way of life. Islam is based on "common sense" and it is in complete harmony with nature. Islam defines the rights and responsibilities of every individual in regards to their relationship with God. |

As-Salaam alaikum, Yes brother, ISLAM means SURRENDER! And quite related thereof, SUFISM is the way to SURRENDER knowingly, willingly and lovingly in every action. In Islam, surrender is an on-going practice. Just as there is no end to Allah's Infinite Grandeur, there can be no limit to our willingness to yield to our Maker, Allahu, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
