Assalam Alaykoum,

What is the exact meaning of the name عمر/Omar/Umar?

I�ve searched on Google, and I found all of these meanings:

Eloquent

Gifted speaker

Populous

Flourishing

First born son

Life

Alive

Long-lived

Long living

One who has a long life

But surely they can�t all be correct at the same time.

So my question is: which of these meanings are the most correct?

The word Zayd or Zaid means 'Abundance', it also means 'To Prosper' and 'To cause others to grow and prosper'.

A name in Arabic may have 2 or more meanings. The fact to notice is that all meanings are positive and inshA'Allah the person adopting should try to make its meaning be reflected in his or her life.

The name Omar/Umar has all those meanings which are correct and is not to confuse people.
