Assalamu alaikum,

Here is an interesting op-ed concerning the current crisis in the Muslim world;

http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1140824434396&call_pageid=968256290204&col=968350116795 - http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thes tar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1140824434396 &call_pageid=968256290204&col=968350116795

With so many wondering why Muslims are responding to current events with such outrage, this author gives some insight.

Peace, ummziba.

The Haroon Siddiqui article above says:

"Only the genocide in the former Yugoslavia (200,000 dead) and the Russian wars on Chechnya (200,000 dead) are not attributable to Western machinations though it must be noted that the latter has had the tacit support of the U.S."

This is an entirely wrong interpretation of what happened in Yugoslavia. Has Haroon Siddiqui conveniently forgotten the 'the west' encouraging the separatist movements and then trying to bomb the place back to the stone age?

Tim,

Of course I have no idea what Mr. Siddiqui has or has not forgotten, I do not know him.  You will find his email address at the bottom of his article.  Surely if you feel strongly he has misrepresented this particular conflict, you might like to send him a letter explaining your position.  I believe he is a reasonable man (from reading his editorials for many years), so, reason with him, if you wish.

Peace, ummziba.
