What do Muslims make of the interpretation of the Quran that the IS fighters in Iraq are making? Is it not a literal interpretation of the text? And is not a literal interpretation of the literal word of God a 'correct' interpretation?

They are doing exactly opposite to teachings of Quran.Allah clearly forbids compulsion in religion in ch 2 v 256 of Quran, Allah in ch 5 v 32 of Quran says if u kill a human being unless for murder or for mischief in the land means as if you have killed whole humanity, if you save an innocent human being means as if you have saved whole humanity.

I'm sure they would respond with sura 9:29 (among others): "Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, and forbid not that which Allah hath forbidden by His messenger, and follow not the Religion of Truth, until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low."

So the question becomes, how do you reconcile 2:256 with 9:29? Confused

P.S.:  I notice that this topic was started in the INTRAfaith subforum, for Muslims only.  It appears that Ian Fidel is not a Muslim either, so probably neither of us should be posting here.  However, it does seem like a question worth asking.  Maybe the moderators could move this to the Interfaith forum?

I read a book "Refuting ISIS".
This book gives a plethora of proofs that demonstrates ISIS actions do not represent Sunni Islam and its claims are based on clear fallacies.Authentic quotes and references are given that destroy the allegations of ISIS.

You can read the book review of the book:

Here Allah has asked Muslims to fight against crusaders. Both the parties fight religious war.
