Bismillah

Assalamualiakum wa rahamtullah wa barkatuhu,

A hadith report tells us when we extend our hand towards Allah He extends an arm, when we take a step towards  Allah, He takes 10 steps towards us,  and if we go walking towards Him, He comes running towards us.

In a recent lecture, the same concept was discussed, and the teacher told that the desire to turn towards Him may be cultivated in the heart of a believer by following 5 means:-

1. By Targheeb : This is to make someone like or do something with a good promise. eg, an awakening of a desire to do acts of devotion may come when a servant learns about the details of the life in Jannah.

2. By Tarheeb : This is a means to stirr a believer off the actions/deeds which may lead one into Allah's displeasure and punishment. eg, when one ponders over the threats and punishments of hellfire, one fears to indulge in a certain forbidden thing.

3. By Tashweek : This is a longing or a yearning for Allah and His good promises.

4. By mujalasat al ulema : By siting in the company of the learned scholars, whose character and adherence to sunnah motivate one towards acts of worship and devotion for ones Creator.

5. Due to no specific reason : the desire to worship Him may come as a gift from Allah, without and specific reason/action of his own. This is because Allah is the owner of our hearts.

It is desirable for a believer to seek these means to cultivate a desire in heart for worship, devotion and acts which are pleasing to Him / cause one to draw near ones Lord.
