As Salamu Alaikum

IC is an Islamic forum but yet I found many members do not greet with Salams. I know that there are non-Muslim members as well in this forum, and some members do say Peace but at the same time, I feel we are losing so much Ajar (reward) by not greeting each other with As Salamu Alaikum. Let me share these Ayat and Hadith with you.

When you are greeted with a greeting, greet in return with what is better than it, or (at least) return it equally. Certainly, Allah is Ever a Careful Account Taker of all things. (Surah An-Nisa' 4: 86)

O you who believe! Enter not houses other than your own, until you have asked permission and greeted those in them; that is better for you, in order that you may remember. (Surah An-Nur 24:27)

.But when you enter the houses, greet one another with a greeting from Allah, blessed and good. Thus Allah makes clear the Ayat to you that you may understand. (Surah An-Nur 24: 61 part)

If the Muslim greets you with the Salam, then return the greeting with a better Salam, or at least equal to the Salam that was given. Therefore, the better Salam is recommended, while returning it equally is an obligation. (Tafsir ibn Kathir)

Imam Ahmad recorded that Abu Raja' Al-`Utaridi said that `Imran bin Husayn said that a man came to the Messenger of Allah and said, "As-Salamu `Alaykum''. The Prophet returned the greeting, and after the man sat down he said, "Ten.''

Another man came and said, "As-Salamu `Alaykum wa Rahmatullah, O Allah's Messenger.'' The Prophet returned the greeting, and after the man sat down he said, "Twenty.''

Then another man came and said, "As-Salamu `Alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuh.'' The Prophet returned the greeting, and after the man sat down he said, "Thirty.'' This is the narration recorded by Abu Dawud. At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasa'i and Al-Bazzar also recorded it.

Abu Hurairah (Radhi Allahu Anhu) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said, "By Him in Whose Hand is my life! You will not enter Jannah until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I inform you of something which, if you do, you will love one another? Promote greetings amongst yourselves.''
[Muslim].

The way I look at it, every time someone reads our Salams (As Salamu Alaikum) we are rewarded with 10 good deeds and at the same time spreading love amongst ourselves.

A very simple and easy way to increase our weight on the scales on the Day of Judgment.

Then as for him whose balance (of good deeds) will be heavy. He will live a pleasant life (in Paradise.)

But as for him whose Balance (of good deeds) will be light. He will have his home in Huwiyah. (Blazing Fire) (Surah Al-Qariah 101:6-9)

Something to think about??????

Wa Alaikum Salam

Verily your Lord is quick in punishment; yet He is indeed Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful (Surah Al-Anam 6:165)
"Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him is our return" (Surah Baqarah 2: 155)

You right and Salaam indeed with As Salaamu alaikum. What is life in this world devoid of it?.

The similitude of the life of the world is only as water which We send down from the sky, then the earth's growth of that which men and cattle eat mingleth with it till, when the earth hath taken on her ornaments and is embellished, and her people deem that they are masters of her, Our commandment cometh by night or by day and We make it as reaped corn as if it had not flourished yesterday. Thus do we expound the revelations for people who reflect. (10:24)

And Allah summoneth to the abode of peace, and leadeth whom He will to a straight path. (10:25)

For those who do good - is the best , and more. Neither dust nor ignominy cometh near their faces. Such are rightful owners of the Garden; they will abide therein. (10:26)

As salamu alaikum

Yes, As-salam is sunnah and ar-rad is wajib.  We miss out on a lot of baraka by neglecting the sunan acts. Jazakillahu khaairan for the reminder sis. Alwardah.

Wa alaikum asalaam

Some people do not return the greeting correctly when they return your greeting.

Some of my favorite ayahs:

4:86 But when you are greeted with a greeting [of peace], answer with an even better greeting, or [at least] with the like thereof. <>Asad(4,105) [105] Verily, God keeps count indeed of all things.

24:27 O YOU who have attained to faith! Do not enter houses other than your own unless you have obtained permission and greeted their inmates. This is [enjoined upon you] for your own good, so that you might bear [your mutual rights] in mind.

WE also need to keep in mind that we must also greet non believers as well with courtesy; Try the Qur'an search:

4:94 [Hence,] O you who have attained to faith, when you go forth [to war] in God's cause, use your discernment, and do not - out of a desire for the fleeting gains of this worldly life - say unto anyone who offers you the greeting of peace, "Thou art not a believer" <>Asad(4,119) [119] for with God there are gains abundant. You, too, were once in the same condition <>Asad(4,120) [120] - but God has been gracious unto you. Use, therefore, your discernment: verily, God is always aware of what you do.

Wa Salaam;
