It came as a (perhaps naive) shock to me the other day when I read that the number of years now into the War in Iraq exceeds those of the Second World War (US).

With regard to the post above, for a little over two years I lived and taught in the coastal rainforests of Costa Rica.  After a particularly bloody Civil War, in 1948 the Costa Rican government abolished the army.  And what did they put the money into - that which had formerly bought soldiers and weapons?  Why, Education, of course.  Costa Rica now has perhaps the most stable country in Central America, and by far the highest literacy rate.

A lesson for those in the "developed" countries?

Unfortunately, I became discourage dispite Brother Whisper's best efforts.  The only ones truly willing to participate were exactly what I didn't want.

Angela, your plan is not limited just reserved for this Forum. It was hatched here, this sapling was planted at this nursery, but there are hundreds, if not thousands, of men and women all over the wide open world who believe that this needs to be done.

Not just the Iraqis, but all human beings, in our world, today, need this sort of people2people action. In fact, we need a full time Global Peace Office. And, only women can set something like that up and manage it.

We have all seen and are suffering the effcts of pobre mans utter impotence in any and all matters of our world.
