Hehe, can muslims go on a date or not?

   If not, how do you even get to know each other to get married? cause I thought in islam, girls and boys can't be alone, the third person is a satan. Man, I don't understand love AT ALL yet, I am still single but I am desperate to learn. Hehehehe. 

My girl friends who are muslims, they're dating, they even tried to kiss once. Is that even right? Then how do you do find love and such? 

Please share basic knowledge about love in islamic way. 

And PS, my parents are still over protective, they aren't allowing me to date yet to, how can I convince them if I do find future "boyfriend?"    

I am the only child and daughter in the family, that should explain.
