Other examples:

Abd Al Qadir Al Jilani said about this verse:
"Who created me, and it is He Who guides me" (Surah 26, V 78)

it means one is in need of a spriritual guide (a saintly Sufi spiritual guide) to show him the way. The way is crossing this world, crossing the next and arriving to Allah Almighty without falling in the dangers of the way.

Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani, the great Sufi saint of the Naqshbandi Order said about this part of a verse:

"We have honoured the sons of Adam" (Surah 17, V 70)

it means the physical body is greatly honored.

They are the ones that can tell you how to read, and how you must read, the Holy Qur'an and the Holy Hadiths. Each one of them talks in accordance with the time, the century.

Dear forumers,

I found out that Ibn Kathir studied under Ibn Taymiyya.

Even though Ibn Taymiyya praised the Sufis, Abu Yazid Al Bistamy, Abd AL Qadir Al Jilani, Rabia Al Adawiya among others; and even though Ibn Kathir wrote a book in praise of Imam Shafi, I do not wish to continue on with this thread as Ibn Taymiyya is the penultimate reference of the Wahhabis.

The Wahhabis filled the world with their extremist knowledge. (It is extremist knowledge according to Sufi standards)

Here are examples from Abd Al Qadir Al Jilani, one of the greatest Sufis. Abd Al Qadir Al Jilani lived in the 12th century. He was, as it is believed in Sufism, one of the representants of the Prophet (saas). Muhammad (saas) has representants in each century. They are in the presence of Allah and His Messenger (saas), they enjoy closeness with Allah and his Messenger (saas), they are friends of Allah and His Messenger (saas) and they are in constant interaction with Allah and His Messenger (saas). They know what Muhammad (saas) means for each Hadith for the people of the different centuries. The Hadiths apply to all ages, but Muhammad (saas) speaks these words in accordance with the needs of his time, the 7th century. Whatever he said in the 7th century is true also for the 21st century. However, only the saintly Sufi spiritual guides of the 21st century know exactly how it applies for the 21st century. They know this from Allah and His Messenger (saas) with whom they are in constant interaction. This is Sufi belief. Therefore, it is forbidden to take the Qur'an from a book shelf at home, at the library or at the mosque, read it and understand it as it is read. There must be an explanation for the Qur'an, from entitled Ulama.

Examples from Abd Al Qadir Al Jilani (12th century)
"Did ye then think that We had created you in jest, and that ye would not be brought back to Us (for account)?" (Surah 23, V 115)

It means human beings have been created for a very great affair.

"But ye will not, except as Allah wills" (Surah 76, V 30)

It means you should not want anything at all. If you want anything, you are going against Allah Almighty.

Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani is a very great saintly Sufi spiritual guide of the 21st century, of the Naqshbandi Sufi Order. Here is an example from him:

"Ya Sin" (Surah 36, V 1)
It means whoever is a Sayyid (a truly great one in Islam) is from the family of the Prophet (saas).

"For he who hateth thee, he will be cut off (from Future Hope)." (Surah 108, V 3)

It means according to Ibn Kathir:

whoever hates you, O Muhammad, and hates the truth, the evidence and the manifest light you are bringing to guide the people. That one will meet with failure and won't see posterity; he is a vile person who will not be called back.

"O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him!" (Surah 89, V 27-28)

Ibn Kathir says (from Ibn Abbas) that when these verses were revealed, Abu Bakr was sitting with the Prophet (saas). He said to the Prophet (saas):

"O Messenger of Allah, there is nothing better than this!"

The Prophet (saas) replied:

"Actually, you will be told this."

"And soon will thy Guardian-Lord give thee (that wherewith) thou shalt be well-pleased." (Surah 93, V 5)

Ibn Kathir says that Allah will grant Muhammad (saas) a million palaces in Paradise. Each one of them will have all that he (saas) wishes of women and female servants.

"until there should come to them Clear Evidence" (Surah 98, V 1)

Ibn Kathir explains that the Clear Evidence is Muhammad (saas) and the Qur'an he (saas) recites.

I add that Jalal Al Din Rumi says: "The glory of love is not a small thing."

Why are you lying?  First of all, you referred to Ibn Kathir's commentary on the wrong verses.  The verses in question are 81:19-20.  Here is Ibn Kathir's commentary:

Allah's statement,

﴿إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ ﴾

(Verily, this is the Word of a most honorable messenger.) meaning, indeed this Qur'an is being conveyed by a noble messenger, which is referring to an honorable angel, who has good character and a radiant appearance, and he is Jibril. Ibn `Abbas, Ash-Sha`bi, Maymun bin Mihran, Al-Hasan, Qatadah, Ar-Rabi` bin Anas, Ad-Dahhak and others have said this.

﴿ذِى قُوَّةٍ﴾

(Dhi Quwwah) This is similar to Allah's statement,

﴿عَلَّمَهُ شَدِيدُ الْقُوَى ذُو مِرَّةٍ﴾

(He has been taught by one mighty in power, Dhu Mirrah.) (53:5-6) meaning, mighty in creation, mighty in strength and mighty in actions.

﴿عِندَ ذِى الْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ﴾

(with the Lord of the Throne Makin,) meaning, he has high status and lofty rank with Allah.

Jibril (as) is "mighty" in "creation" not "creating".  Jibril has no power to create.  He is powerful when compared to the rest of creation.  The term "Dhu Mirrah" is used in Arabic to refer to a strong person, as Ibn Kathir explains in his commentary on 53:5:

(Dhu Mirrah), meaning, he is mighty in power, according to Mujahid, Al-Hasan and Ibn Zayd. In an authentic Hadith from `Abdullah bin `Umar and Abu Hurayrah, the Prophet said,

لَا تَحِلُّ الصَّدَقَةُ لِغَنِيَ وَلَا لِذِي مِرَّةٍ سَوِي

(Charity is not allowed for a rich person nor Dhu Mirrah (a strong person) of sound mind and body.) Allah said;

Say: "Truly, my prayer and my service of sacrifice, my life and my death, are (all) for Allah, the Cherisher of the Worlds. (Surat al-Anaam: 162)
