Assalaamualikum to all....

How do we live and thrive as Muslims, being single, middle aged and alone?

How do we prevent the disease of depression and ingratitude from consuming all our waking moments?

How do we accept this decree of Allah and not succumb to the darkest depths of despair?

How do we cope, how do we manage?

We thrive through patience, worship and obedience.  Seek fellowship with other Muslims and volunteer some of your time.  You may want to discuss depression with your doctor, especially if you're having feelings of despair that prevent normal day-to-day functioning. Wa alaikum salaam, and all the best!

Being Muslims we understand the importance of being alone. If we are alone, God Almighty is with us. When may family goes out and I am left alone, I feel a sensation that only
God is with me. There is a great couplet by Urdu poet Momin:

" It is as if You are with me,
When no one is with me "

That is we are free to say whatever we think we want to say to Allah. Ask for anything or seek any knowledge. Secondly we can read holy Quran or Seerat (biography) of prophet Muhammad (SAW) to warm up our hearts.

Holy Quran is the Greatest favor that Allah has done to a people and prophet Muhammad is the best poet who was sent to any Ummat (Community).

Please take a positive approach and enjoy the idle time
by thinking and pondering.

Besides what everyone has said. Try getting a pet. They do help coming from experience. Inshallah may Allah make it easier upon you.

Blessed prophet Muhammad SAW has said that ' La hawala
wala quwata illa billahil Azim ' is from the treasures of
throne and is a solution for all problems. Reciting this kalema hundred times a day will in shaa Allah take away all your depression, sadness and worries.
Smile, worries are for those who do not believe in Allah!

Keep a diary. Write to Allah everyday. when you feeling lonely, you can always look up a letter where it was a good day inshallah. But like the others have said Salaah and Quran take priority inshallah.
