When one is a true man of Allah along with being knowledgeable and pious he is humble, easy-going, soft in manners and generally treats mankind with love.
For one whose knowledge has corrupted his heart is haughty, harsh in speech and manners and often shows hate towards particular groups of people.

This is just from personal experience, don't have any measuring scale that knows the secrets of hearts.

Caringheart,
by the level of their devotion to fulfill the word of God. Please not that I wrote "to fulfill the word of God. So every thing that is claimed to be word of God is not so unless proven to the intellect God has given us. One of the main qualities of God's word is it's ability to not contradict itself. If it does, it is not, if it does not, it is.
Then following it inward and outward to the best will speak for itself.

The friends of God will certainly have nothing to fear, nor will they be grieved. Al Quran 10:62

No we can not do that with certainty. There are too many conditions to be God devotees, where it is maybe acceptable to one party and condemned by the other.

I am with my short comings tend to accept anyone easily, without using well known tools to judge.
