Welcome Boshoff,, hope you stay around and give us a chance to share our understanding of Islam. In the Quran God Almighty has described the purpose He has made the mankind; to serve and to worship Him. We further learn from His revelations that we serve God by fulfilling our two main obligations: Our duty to our Lord, and our duty to what He has created (everything and everyone other than Him). To declare and worship God and none other, obeying His commands by fulfilling what He has made obligatory for us to do like pray or offer our Salat five times a day, pay Zakat to help the needy and poor, fast, perform Hajj. Be good to ourselves, to our parents and elders, spouse, children, neighbors, wayfarer, needy and poor, and to all that surrounds us and much more. This message was revealed by God through a man, a prophet, Prophet Mohammed (pbuh). Many prophets came before him like Noah, Moses, David and Jesus (pbut). He was the last of the chain of prophets God sent in different times. We are told after him there will be no more prophets sent, and thus the last book that came through him , the Quran, is the Final revelation sent for guidance of mankind. We make no distinction between any of God's prophets, we love respect and revere them all the same. Adam (pbuh) has the distinction of being the first and Mohammed (pbuh) the last prophet. Muslims do not make images, statues or pictures of any of God's prophets, nor do we worship or bow down to them. In Islam we are told that all of God's messengers and the message they brought, the religion was also the same. Moses, David, Jesus, and Mohammed (pbut) all taught the same that there is only One God, and that we should worship and serve none else but God. Through Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) God Almighty reinstated the same message for the humanity for the last time till the end. If you have any questions about Islam and Muslims please post them in appropriate threads, or make new threads depending what you are asking. Feel at home. The friends of God will certainly have nothing to fear, nor will they be grieved. Al Quran 10:62
