How can fasting elevate our immune system and over

I'm well aware of the fact that fasting increases a sense of piousness and nearness to Allah. However, I was going through this write-up where they briefly talked about the benefits it gives to our digestive system, my question here is: does fasting really strenthgen our immune system too? Detailed explanation with concrete evidence is appreciated.

I think it depends on how much you eat after sunset. Ramadan-fasting is not like beneficial medical fasting. When you don't eat during the day and your liver is fully of glycogen nothing really changes and this won't affect the immune system much. The unhealthy part is dehydration especially when it's warm and the body needs to sweat. This actually weakens the body and you are more prone to getting sick. Another factor is latitude. Ramadan was invented at 21 N. Muslims in Germany live between 48 and 52 N. So Ramadan in June is extreme. In northern Scandinavia it can even get Muslims killed, because the sun never sets. In 7th century Mecca, folks had no idea that the Earth is a sphere with a tilted axis.

It depends how long one fasts. There is something called IGF1 and it is associated with growth but also in ways not quite understood it seems to give protection from cancer if it's level is low. Now one way of lowering IGF1 is to fast but it needs to be for at least 24 hours. The way it works is IGF1 when it is low means that cells repair rather than duicate. For these 24 hour fasts there are also benefits for cholesterol. many people use a constant regime of fasting for 24 hours for 2 days each week - you can look up details by googling 5:2 diet. So for example, fast say Monday and Friday.

One needs to be careful because fasting for 24 hours might be unwise in some occupations (or if you have medical conditions) so one might have your fasting on a weekend. Typical ways are to fast from 6pm after your evening meal to 6pm the following day though you should take regular drinks such as tea or water.
