Brazilian was restrained by a surveillance officer before being
shot eight times

Too many lies and excuses should say soon to what really took place.
While so many innocent people died in these bomb attacks, no one is
addressing the innocent killed by hate crimes by nationals like some UK
police here show.

'Breach of duty'

Mr Menezes' family lawyers have called for Metropolitan Police
Commissioner Sir Ian Blair to resign over his handling of the aftermath of
the shooting - which happened a day after the failed 21 July bomb
attacks.

Sir Ian wrote to the Home Office on the morning of Mr Menezes'
death to make sure the terrorist investigation took precedence over any
IPCC investigation.

Scotland Yard said Sir Ian had believed the dead man was linked to
terrorism when he made the request.

Later that day, the Metropolitan Police agreed to hand over the shooting
investigation to the IPCC. Its officers took over the inquiry the following
Monday.

The family's lawyers said the decision not to invite the IPCC in
immediately was a breach of statutory duty and could have led to crucial
evidence such as CCTV footage being lost.

Sitting down'

The leaked documents contradict initial eyewitness reports
suggesting Mr Menezes had hurdled a barrier at Stockwell Tube station
and was wearing a padded jacket that could have concealed a bomb.

On the day of the shooting, Scotland Yard said that "his clothing and his
behaviour at the station added to [the officers'] suspicions".

But the documents suggest Mr Menezes was wearing a denim jacket and
walked into the station, picked up a free newspaper on the way and
walked through ticket barriers.

It is suggested he only started to run when he saw a train arriving - and
was sitting down on the train when he was shot.

Roy Ramm, a former Scotland Yard commander of special operations, told
the BBC the leaks were very damaging for the inquiry into the shooting,
but it was still a "fragment" of a very large investigation and so was very
hard to gain a full picture of the investigation.

"I think whoever has done that has done a great disservice to the
investigation," he said.

"I have no doubt for a minute the police have got some very tough
questions to answer. I think we knew that as soon as Mr de Menezes was
identified as not being a terrorist.

"But gathering information in this piecemeal way I don't think we gain a
better understanding of those failings."

Gym membership card
On Wednesday, ITV News revealed further details from the leaked
documents.

It reported that a surveillance officer known as Hotel 3 said he had
followed Mr Menezes onto the Tube.

He stopped the train doors from closing and pointed out Mr Menezes to
armed officers by calling out "he's here".

According to the documents, police initially went to the block of flats
where Mr Menezes lived in Scotia Road, Tulse Hill, because of a gym
membership card found at the scene of the attempted Shepherd's Bush
bombing.

The card was registered to bomb suspect Osman Hussain and another
man, believed to have lived in the Scotia Road flats.

Scotland Yard and the Home Office have so far said it would be
inappropriate to comment.

Yes. It is one of the saddest days for people like me. I have now come to believe that anyone remotely looking like a Muslim (or an Arab) should be helped to relocate in other countries.

The Downing Street has gone American in it's ways. Any Brit minded Minister would have resigned for far less.

The events at Stockwell tube station

The Guardian

The leaked statements from witnesses to the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes refute the account spun to a compliant press in the immediate aftermath of his killing (Reports, August 17). It was claimed he was wearing a heavy jacket, implying he could have been concealing bombs on his body, that he vaulted a barrier, ran from the police and refused to stop.

Now we learn he was wearing a light denim jacket, used his oyster card at Stockwell station, descended to the platform by escalator, had time to pick up a paper and, most damning of all, was being restrained by a surveillance officer when police officers pumped him full of bullets. In addition we are told surveillance broke down when one officer went to relieve himself, that mysteriously and culpably no CCTV cameras were working on Stockwell station just two weeks after 7/7. This is appalling.

If the original story we were spun had had some truth in it, then it could have been argued the police might have had some excuse for shooting Jean Charles in what was a tragic accident. But if the statements that have been leaked are true, serious consequences must follow. The police officers who shot Jean Charles must be prosecuted with the full rigour of the law. Those who fed the initial pack of lies to the press must be exposed and sacked. And Ian Blair and the government ministers who were responsible for sanctioning the shoot-to-kill policy which produced the utterly avoidable death of this young man, must resign.

There was a time when ministers would have resigned automatically when far less serious events occurred on their watch. In the culture of lies and spin under this government, we seem to have lost that idea of responsibility. It's high time it was reestablished.

Even if Jean Charles de Menezes had been positively identified as a terrorist suspect, it would still have been wrong to shoot him in the head. Israeli soldiers recently managed to disarm a Palestinian youth strapped with explosives. Notwith-standing the victim's right to justice, officers need intelligence which might be obtained from questioning.

Well; the truth seems to take a while for liars to let be sometimes, that is
what all there arguing is for, eitherwise they could of had a good discussion
about what these types of things and let go of the mask they have been
hiding behind.
