Asalaamu aleikum

Well, I'm a female revert, mashallah, who found Islam while single, before I ever met my husband- and Not for the sake of a man or marriage, although I did marry later on.
I find it dismaying that many people automatically assume that I reverted for my husband. I understand that some women do just that, but it often seems to me a very shallow commitment- one that's often dropped as soon as the couple divorce and go their separate ways. Embracing Islam is more than just mouthing the Shahada, or being desperate to do anything to please a man at the sake of rejecting your own identity.
I think a lot of women are attracted initially to Islam by the special status and respect that is afforded women, by the standards of modesty and decency. This is a different kind of treatment than many of us in the west are used to- we see and feel the failure of "women's lib" and are not content to be reduced to "sex objects" on constant display. Islam is unique in it's concept of construction of femaleness and the relations between men and women. Subhanallah.
Of course there are other, spiritual factors at work, but I think these issues I outlined above play more of a role with women reverts than with men.

But, yes, Allah SWT guides whom he wills...

According "IslamiCity Imam", yes about 70 % who took shahada in IslamiCity are women.  So, not because they are marrying a muslim man.  Majority of those women are single.

Assalam Alaikum,

I am a new Muslim since last 3 months. I was a Hindu Iyer Brahmin Girl, married to a Muslim man for the last 14 months, with whom I am in deep and intimate love for last 3 years. Although I continued to be a Hindu after marriage, I was doing Namaz at home along with my sisters in law.

I was also going to temple for worship but I realised slowly that Islam appeals to me more and that I have begun to admire the beauty of Islam and the great position of women in Islam.

The turnaround happened as I got pregnant with 2 babies in my body and I felt that it is gift of Allah through my husband. When I visited temple after getting pregnant, I realised that I was getting angry at myself for wasting my life so far. I rushed to my home , offered Namaz , read Kalma and tore up the image of the diety that I had and stopped worshipping idols.

My husband took me to Masjid and a priest converted me to Muslim. I thank Allah for giving me a chance to lead my life as a pious and devout Muslim.

I also thanked Allah for giving me courage to overcome my initial cultural and social shock. I was a strict vegetarian and revulsed the sight of meat but after becoming pregnant and becoming a muslim, I eat lot of  meat including beef also to support the three Muslim lives in me.

I pray to Allah to make me understand the tenets of Islam better.

La Ilahi Illallah

Hi, Infact my husband or other members of my family never compelled me to submit to Islam. I was a Hindu for almost one year after wedding and used to do Namas as well as do Hindu prayer daily. My husband Saleem Mohd Qureshi used to take me temples whenever I requested. I used to even fast during Hindu religious occassions but simultaneously fulfilling my duties as his loving submissive muslim wife.

Although marriage to a Muslim man is the trigger, I slowly enjoyed Namaz and Islam appealed to me more as complete religion and it is because Islam filled my conscoiusness and before long I decided to become Muslim . Allah is a witness that my conversion is not because of love or force of a Muslim man on me or sex with my Muslim husband.

The day I told my husband about my inner desire to become a muslim woman, he hugged me and expressed thanks to Allah and uttered Kalma in my ears and in my mouth, with full exitement, so I always hear and speak the Islamic prayers. We both offered prayers and I tore away all images of 'gods' and broke the small idol I had into pieces and threw away in dustbin, and made a vow to Allah that I will be a Muslim henceforth.

I beleive that one becomes a Muslim only due to change of heart and complete surrender to the principles of Islam. Other issues may help.

I agree that many women come to Islam because it is the only religion that represents women in a decent way - modest.

Since in Islam our relationship with Allah is the true source of status women will never be unequal simply because we are women or choose to raise kids and make no money.

The sad reality is that many women become Muslim through Muslim men - and often not even through marriage! All it takes is one Muslim boyfriend who prays sometimes to spark a girl's interest and then Allah leads her to the truth. I know at least a few girls like this. Often it's Pakistani men, or whatever the predominant culture is.

It is said that Maya Karin is to marry British-born teacher, Steven David Shorthose in Bellagio Italy, 9 August 2008.

Steven David Shorthose has been waiting for this wonderful moment for seven years. What a long period of waiting.

Steve whose Muslims name is Muhammad Ali, has embraced Islam 4 years ago.

It surely makes many wonder why this guy does not come into the picture or the mainstream news when the gossip between Maya Karin and Khairy Jamaludin (Malaysias Prime Ministers Son in Law) broke out.

Saiful Bahri will do the honour of designing Maya Karins wedding dress in Italy, while Radzuan Radzwill for the reception (Kenduri Kahwin, Ijab Kabul, Nikah) in Malaysia.

This news show the way round. A british man became muslim to marry a mixed malaysian lady. Hope they are enriching their Islam and blessed with a great life adventure. Passing the trials of dunya to the Garden of Akhirah. Here presto:

9 August 2008 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Steven David Shorthose  is a Mathematics teacher in Alice Smith International School. Maybe their children would be beautiful and genius too!

This marriage will surely devastating many of her male fans, whatever it is, everybody should hope that Maya Karin would stay in Malaysian entertainment industry.

I was brought up fundamental Baptist, but a lot of things didn't make any sense - like we don't like the Catholic Church and all of it's teachings, but they are the ones who pick and chose what went in the Bible.  Plus Paul's teachings were just not matching a lot of what Jesus (p) said.  I met a Muslim at work and after I got over the fright that he wouldn't 'kill all Americans' - we started debating the two religions.  He encouraged me to read the Qur'an and right from the start - it made sense.  It was what I was looking for.  My husband, however, doesn't believe in anything other than that 'there may be a God', so I certainly don't and can't follow his lead anymore.  The churches I have always gone to always had more women than men - usually the man was at home doing something 'manly' like drinking beer in front of the tv watching football.
