Salman, if you are going to mention explanations like this, then I think it would be wise to include some evidence  It just seems like pure spectulations.

There are some questions I can ask:

First, how do you know for sure?

How do you know that the companions had a so strong iman?

Where is in the law that you can divorce your wife/wives for not practicing islam sincerely? (if the companions could then there should be discussions on this, that you can or not, for which I have not come across any  (so i really doubt that there is such a thing  ))

Did this come up in your learning somewhere?

What is the evidence / support for this?

What I have gotten over the years being here, is that, It is what is in your heart that matters the most, as well as intentions. The hijab is something personal as well as it being recommended in the quran. In the end it is between you and God. Not with others, others they're to guide you and help when you slip, not force something as that is seen as conversion.

If you search the women's section there is much on the hijab, even a very long thread that I was part of in the old forum and brought it across here

hope this helps a bit, i'm sure other muslims will come by  but yeah, check the women's section first.
