Is this duaa authentic?

Dear Hadi,

Please explain this duaa. Is it an authentic one?

Dear Reader,

The translation of the dua’ you provided is:

"Oh Allah, you know what we hold secretly and what we declare openly, and you know our needs, so (please) give us what we ask for, give us what we ask for, give us what we ask for."

We do not know what you mean by the question is this dua’ authentic. Our best guess is that you are asking whether the Prophet (peace be upon him) is known to have made this dua’.  We have not been able to find it in any of the major books of hadith, and cannot, with any confidence, say that it comes directly from the Prophet as one of his reported dua’s.

That being said, we as Muslims are completely free to pray to Allah SWT in any form and with any words that we want.  The Quran clearly states:

“And your Lord says: Call upon Me, I will respond to you. Indeed, those who are too proud to worship Me will enter Hell humiliated.”  Surat Ghafir (Quran 40:60)

“And when My servants ask you concerning Me—indeed I am near. I respond to the call of the caller when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me and believe in Me, that they may be guided.”  Surat al Baqarra (Quran 2:186).

Therefore, we strongly believe, and God knows best, that any sincere dua’ you make is “authentic” because it comes from your heart, and not only are you allowed to make this dua’, but we would encourage you to do so, since its content is good and pure.

In peace.
