What is Sharia? Most people do not distinguish between Sharia and the Sharia laws passed by Muslim-majority countries.

Dr. Basheer Ahmed was born in India. After completing his medical schooling in Pakistan, he obtained a post-graduate degree and training in psychiatry at Glasgow University in Scotland. He came to the USA in 1968 and was a faculty member at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at New York; Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, and was also a professor of psychiatry at Southwestern Medical school, Dallas, TX. He is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatrist Association and has been practicing psychiatry in Fort Worth, TX, since 1985.


He is a founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Muslim Community Center for Human Services, which provides medical, dental, and social services to needy residents of the Dallas Fortworth area. He is also the founder and president of the Institute of medieval and post-medieval studies – promoting understanding of Muslim contributions to world civilization, and the founder and president emeritus of IQRA, promoting peace and building harmonious relations among people of different faiths.
