RAMADAN KAREEM

According to the Fiqh Council of North America:

The 1st of Ramadan will be on Wednesday, August 11, 2010

The 1st of Shawwal (Eid Al-Fitr) will be on Friday, September 10, 2010

Around the world most countries have announced that Wednesday will be the start of the fasting month.

Some mosques and communities may observe different criteria for determining the start of the lunar month. Please confirm with your local moon-sighting authorities to determine when to start Ramadan.

May Allah keep us on the right path, and accept our fasting and prayers.

For more detailed information, please visit: www.fiqhcouncil.org or www.moonsighting.com.

We wish the best blessings of Ramadan to all. May Allah accept our worship and may He help us rejuvenate our faith. May He help us share the joy of this month with all our family, friends and neighbors.

DIET DURING RAMADAN

To be healthy, one must consume food from the major food groups: bread and cereal, milk and dairy product, meat and bean, vegetable and fruit. During the month long fast of Ramadan the metabolic rate of a fasting person slows down and other regulatory mechanisms start functioning. Body and dietary fat is efficiently utilized. Consuming total food intake that is less than the total food intake during normal days is sufficient to maintain a person's health. Intake of fruits after a meal is strongly suggested. A balanced diet improves blood cholesterol profile, reduces gastric acidity, prevents constipation and other digestive problems, and contributes to an active and healthy life style. (Int. J. Ramadan Fasting Research, 3:1-6, 1999)

Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (Between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (Should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful.

Quran 2:185 Translation by Abdullah Yusuf Ali)
