إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا أَسْمَاء سَمَّيْتُمُوهَا أَنتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُم مَّا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَانٍ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى الْأَنفُسُ وَلَقَدْ جَاءهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ الْهُدَى (53:23)

In hiya illa asmaon sammaytumooha antum waabaokum ma anzala Allahu biha min sultanin in yattabiAAoona illa alththanna wama tahwa alanfusu walaqad jaahum min rabbihimu alhuda

These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. - 53:23 (Asad) -   


 
An-Najm (The Star) - 53:24 
أَمْ لِلْإِنسَانِ مَا تَمَنَّى (53:24)

Am lilinsani ma tamanna

فَلِلَّهِ الْآخِرَةُ وَالْأُولَى (53:25)

وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ لَا تُغْنِي شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْئًا إِلَّا مِن بَعْدِ أَن يَأْذَنَ اللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَاء وَيَرْضَى (53:26)

Wakam min malakin fee alssamawati la tughnee shafaAAatuhum shayan illa min baAAdi an yathana Allahu liman yashao wayarda

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ الْأُنثَى (53:27)

Inna allatheena la yuminoona bialakhirati layusammoona almalaikata tasmiyata alontha

وَمَا لَهُم بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْئًا (53:28)

Wama lahum bihi min AAilmin in yattabiAAoona illa alththanna wainna alththanna la yughnee mina alhaqqi shayan

فَأَعْرِضْ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّى عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا (53:29)

FaaAArid AAan man tawalla AAan thikrina walam yurid illa alhayata alddunya

ذَلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ الْعِلْمِ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اهْتَدَى (53:30)

Thalika mablaghuhum mina alAAilmi inna rabbaka huwa aAAlamu biman dalla AAan sabeelihi wahuwa aAAlamu bimani ihtada

وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسَاؤُوا بِمَا عَمِلُوا وَيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا بِالْحُسْنَى (53:31)

Walillahi ma fee alssamawati wama fee alardi liyajziya allatheena asaoo bima AAamiloo wayajziya allatheena ahsanoo bialhusna

الَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَائِرَ الْإِثْمِ وَالْفَوَاحِشَ إِلَّا اللَّمَمَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَاسِعُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ الْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ فَلَا تُزَكُّوا أَنفُسَكُمْ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقَى (53:32)

Basit -   Hussari -   Minshawi -  f

Allatheena yajtaniboona kabaira alithmi waalfawahisha illa allamama inna rabbaka wasiAAu almaghfirati huwa aAAlamu bikum ith anshaakum mina alardi waith antum ajinnatun fee butooni ommahatikum fala tuzakkoo anfusakum huwa aAAlamu bimani ittaqa

He is fully aware of you when He brings you into being out of dust, and when you are still hidden in your mothersí wombs: do not, then, consider your­selves pure - [for] He knows best as to who is conscious of Him. - 53:32 (Asad) -   


 
An-Najm (The Star) - 53:33 
أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي تَوَلَّى (53:33)

Afaraayta allathee tawalla

HAST THOU, then, ever considered him who turns away [from remembering Us, and cares for no more than the life of this world], - 53:33 (Asad) -   


 
An-Najm (The Star) - 53:34 
وَأَعْطَى قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَى (53:34)

Basit -   Hussari -   Minshawi -  f

WaaAAta qaleelan waakda

and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul], and so grudgingly? - 53:34 (Asad) -   


 
An-Najm (The Star) - 53:35 
أَعِندَهُ عِلْمُ الْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَى (53:35)

Basit -   Hussari -   Minshawi -  f

aAAindahu AAilmu alghaybi fahuwa yara

Does he [claim to] have knowledge of some­thing that is beyond the reach of human perception, so that he can see [it clearly]? - 53:35 (Asad) -   


 
An-Najm (The Star) - 53:36 
أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِي صُحُفِ مُوسَى (53:36)

Am lam yunabba bima fee suhufi moosa

and that it is He who destroyed the ancient [tribes of] Ad - 53:50 (Asad) -   


 
An-Najm (The Star) - 53:51 
وَثَمُودَ فَمَا أَبْقَى (53:51)

Wathamooda fama abqa

Waqawma noohin min qablu innahum kanoo hum athlama waatgha

THIS IS a warning like those warnings of old: - 53:56 (Asad) -

أَزِفَتْ الْآزِفَةُ (53:57)

Azifati alazifatu

And do you laugh instead of weeping, - 53:60 (Asad) -

وَأَنتُمْ سَامِدُونَ (53:61)

Waantum samidoona

and divert yourselves all the while? - 53:61 (Asad) -   


 
An-Najm (The Star) - 53:62 
فَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ وَاعْبُدُوا (53:62)

Faosjudoo lillahi waoAAbudoo
