Impact of a single sincere step

The journey of a thousand leagues begins with a single step. A single thought and action can lead to the moment that would put a human being on the moon. Nothing substantial ever comes about in a spontaneous manner. This is the promise of Allah. Make a small motion in the direction of change and see the ripples grow with every action thereafter.

A young boy in India once made up his mind to put in a few hours of his day towards his hobby. He had a fascination with plants and trees. Every day after school he would go to his little patch of garden and plant something that interested him. As time went on, he would embark upon gradually larger projects. Putting in roughly the same amount of time daily, his routine was to plant native trees and vegetation along a narrow sandbar near his village.

Today, there stands a large dense forest reserve where that barren sandbar once lay. Jadav Payeng single-handedly planted a complex ecosystem that spans an area larger than New York’s Central Park. It provides shelter for a plethora of wildlife and is home to thousands of native tree species. In four decades, by simply following a series of small actions, Jadav managed to create a rich biosphere and make a significant impact on the environment.

This brings to mind the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
“Take up good deeds only as much as you are able, for the best deeds are those done regularly even if they are few.”

Consistent tasks in a positive direction, however small, will definitely yield prominent results in the long term.

Human Concern International indeed follows the Prophet’s advice in this regard. What started as a modest call to action in 1979 by a concerned group of regular Canadians, has transformed into a veritable global relief network that provides for the needs of millions throughout the world.

The essence of HCI is simply to end poverty. HCI is governed by the principles of human rights and decency. No one should sleep hungry. No child should fear abandonment. No sick person should suffer from a lack of care. No victim of conflict or natural disaster should be unduly subject to the turbulence of their situation.

HCI is present in over thirty countries and has created a family of partners and affiliates in communities where help is needed.

HCI’s flagship campaign of nourishing the next generation is the Child Sponsorship Program. Through an established setup, HCI can provide for a child with food, security, medicine, and schooling. With zero administration fees, HCI prides itself on offering a direct management of funds for the beneficiary.

Clean water is a valuable resource in many parts of the world. Human Concern International, through a channel of intermediaries and with backing from a large family of supporters, is active in supplying the means of providing a source for such invaluable necessities.

A journey of a thousand leagues is a long voyage, and it can be completed with a simple forward movement in the right direction. HCI encourages you to join us in our endeavors in creating a world of change for others and with that pursuit for ourselves and the next generation. With the consistent support of its donors and affiliates, HCI is tirelessly working to aid those that need help.

There are only two rules HCI follows. Be Human. Be Concerned.
