UAE Letter to Saudi King Seen as a Snub to Crown Prince

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed's decision to send a handwritten letter directly to Saudi Arabia's King Salman has been interpreted by diplomats as an attempt to bypass the kingdom's powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The move comes as relations between the two Gulf powers remain strained over regional issues, including Yemen and Sudan. While the letter was officially described as relating to ties between the two countries and an invitation to a UN-sponsored water conference, observers say its direct delivery to the elderly king carries political significance.

The outreach also appears to sidestep existing channels proposed by the Saudi crown prince for addressing tensions between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi.

Israel Considers Expelling UK Officials From Gaza Monitoring Centre

Israel is reportedly considering expelling British officials from the US-led International Gaza Support Center, which monitors the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

The move is believed to be a response to British Prime Minister Andy Burnham's plans to introduce tougher measures against illegal Israeli settlements, including a possible ban on settlement goods.

According to reports, Italy and Germany could also face removal from the centre. Israel has already expelled Dutch and Spanish officials following disagreements over their governments' policies towards Israeli settlements and the war on Gaza.

The developments mark another sharp deterioration in relations between Britain and Israel.

Turkey Plays the Long Game After Israeli Strikes on Syria

Turkey is showing restraint following Israeli strikes on a military airbase in northern Syria, despite concerns in Ankara that the attacks could escalate tensions between the two countries.

Turkish officials reportedly believe Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may be using tensions with Turkey to strengthen his position ahead of Israel's upcoming election. Ankara is therefore avoiding a direct confrontation while waiting to see whether a political change takes place in Israel.

At the same time, Turkey is strengthening its influence in Syria through close coordination with Washington and support for a stable central government in Damascus. Officials say Ankara is pursuing a long-term strategy rather than responding to Israeli provocations.

Iran Diplomacy Gains Momentum as Mediators Arrive in Tehran

A new diplomatic push is underway to ease tensions in the Iran war, with senior officials from Qatar, Oman and Pakistan travelling to Tehran for talks.

Qatar's prime minister is seeking to help revive stalled negotiations between Iran and the United States, while Oman has been discussing the future of the Strait of Hormuz with Iranian officials. Pakistan's army chief has also held meetings with senior Iranian leaders.

Despite the renewed diplomatic activity, major differences remain. Iran and the United States continue to take hardline positions, while the future of the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the biggest obstacles to any wider agreement. Analysts, however, see the flurry of regional diplomacy as a possible sign that both sides may be looking for a way to prevent further military escalation.
