Throughout history, stories surrounding death have fascinated people across different cultures and religions. Some accounts are explained through science and psychology, while others remain mysteries that spark debate and reflection.

One such story, shared by a man named Ali, describes an unforgettable experience that allegedly took place while preparing a deceased person for burial.

A Family Tradition

According to the account, Ali came from a family that had spent generations washing and preparing the deceased for Islamic burial. His father and grandfather had done the same work, and eventually Ali and his four brothers inherited the responsibility.

Although he admitted he never truly enjoyed the profession, it had become a family tradition. Their workplace was often quiet, isolated, and filled with reminders of life's temporary nature.

A Late-Night Arrival

One night in 2018, at around 2:00 a.m., there was a knock on the door. A group of grieving relatives had brought the body of a young man, believed to be in his mid-thirties, for the ritual washing (Ghusl).

As was his usual practice, Ali asked all but one family member to wait outside. Too many people inside often made the process difficult, as grief could overwhelm relatives and interrupt the preparation.

After everyone left, Ali locked the doors and began his work.

An Unexpected Assistant

While preparing the body, Ali suddenly noticed a man standing at the doorway.

The stranger greeted him with "Assalamu Alaikum" and introduced himself as Hussein, claiming to be the deceased's cousin. Since it wasn't unusual for close relatives to assist, Ali allowed him to stay.

Over the next several minutes, Hussein proved extremely helpful. He passed the necessary supplies, assisted with the washing process, and seemed to know exactly what was required. At one point, Hussein quietly remarked that he had been "waiting for him for two days."

The comment puzzled Ali, but he continued with his work.

Interestingly, Hussein showed little outward emotion despite claiming to be a close relative. While Ali found this unusual, he focused on completing the burial preparations.

A Strange Disappearance

Once the body had been washed and wrapped in its burial shroud, Hussein asked if he could leave. Before departing, Ali requested that he tell the waiting family members they could now come inside for their final farewell.

Minutes passed.

No one entered.

Confused, Ali went outside himself.

To his surprise, every door remained locked exactly as he had left it. The family members were still waiting outside and insisted that nobody had entered or exited the room during the entire process.

When Ali asked about Hussein, the relatives looked at one another in confusion.

"There is no Hussein here," they replied.

The Shocking Revelation

Still convinced the man had been real, Ali described him in detail.

An elderly family member then opened a photograph on his phone and asked, "Did he look like this?"

Ali immediately recognized the face.

"Yes," he answered.

The elderly man then revealed something that stunned everyone present.

The man in the photograph-Hussein-had reportedly died two days earlier in the same motorcycle accident as the deceased. While Hussein died instantly, his companion had remained in a coma before eventually passing away.

Ali was left speechless.

Searching for an Explanation

Ali later admitted that the incident affected him deeply. For several years, he struggled to sleep and found it difficult to process what had happened.

Eventually, he sought guidance from a religious scholar.

According to the account, the scholar suggested that if the experience genuinely occurred, one possible explanation within Islamic belief could involve a Qareen-a companion jinn associated with every human being. Islamic tradition includes narrations indicating that jinn can sometimes appear in human form by Allah's permission. The scholar emphasized that only Allah knows the unseen and that such events should not be treated as established facts.

He advised Ali to remain consistent in remembering Allah, reciting the morning and evening supplications (Adhkar), and strengthening his faith rather than becoming consumed by unexplained experiences.

Lessons Beyond the Mystery

Whether viewed as a supernatural event, a psychological experience, or simply an extraordinary story passed from one person to another, the account encourages reflection on mortality and faith.

For Muslims, it also serves as a reminder to maintain daily remembrance of Allah, prepare for the Hereafter through righteous actions, and avoid becoming preoccupied with the unseen, knowledge of which belongs to Allah alone.

Ultimately, the true nature of Ali's experience cannot be verified. Like many remarkable stories, it invites readers to reflect while leaving the final judgment to Allah.
