HHRD Healthcare & Nutrition Program: Safeguarding Health at Every Age

By: Blerta Kosumi   December 18, 2025

Around the world, millions of people go without basic healthcare. Poverty, conflict, discrimination, and disasters leave families vulnerable, especially in remote villages and refugee camps. Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) Healthcare & Nutrition Program (HANP) was created to fill this gap, delivering life-saving services to those who need them most.

HANP combines clinics, mobile health units, emergency ambulances, and psychosocial support to provide complete care. Its initiatives include maternal and child health services, emergency response, and preventive care such as cataract surgery. Specialized ambulances, including vehicles adapted for children with disabilities, ensure that even the most marginalized can access care.

Restoring Sight, Restoring Lives

Vision loss affects millions worldwide, threatening independence and livelihoods. In 2023, HANP conducted over 40,000 eye examinations and performed 9,216 cataract surgeries across 20 countries, including refugee populations in Kenya, Somalia, Jordan, and Uganda. These interventions restore sight and enable people to thrive.

Healthcare That Comes to You

Reaching underserved communities often requires going beyond traditional clinics. HANP deploys mobile medical, dental, and emergency units to rural, urban, and disaster-hit areas. In 2023, mobile units served communities in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, and Kenya, ensuring that distance and geography do not stand in the way of care.

Protecting Mothers and Children

Maternal and child health is central to HANP's mission. In Pakistan, the Mother and Child Healthcare Center in Mianwali has provided care since 2011, while programs in Karachi support Burmese migrant families. Remote neonatal ICUs provide emergency services, and in Nepal, uterine prolapse surgeries offer women critical care that they might otherwise never receive.

HHRD's approach demonstrates that healthcare is more than treatment; it is empowerment. By combining emergency response, preventive care, and long-term rehabilitation, the organization ensures that even the most vulnerable populations are not left behind.

Through HANP, HHRD is safeguarding health at every age, giving millions the gift of life, hope, and dignity.
