A deadly drone strike carried out by Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted a displacement shelter and university grounds in El Fasher, North Darfur, killing dozens of civilians, including children and women.
Reports from the Sudan Doctors' Network confirm that at least 53 people were killed in the assault, with 14 children and 15 women among the fatalities. Another 21 people sustained injuries, many in critical condition.
The attack struck al‑Arqam Home, a shelter for displaced individuals located on the campus of Omdurman Islamic University. Humanitarian groups condemned the incident, with the Mashad Organisation describing it as "one of the worst atrocities" by the RSF, highlighting a pattern of targeting civilians.
El Fasher has been under siege by the RSF for over a year, with approximately 260,000 residents trapped in the city and facing severe shortages of food, medical care, and basic services. The UN reports that attacks by the RSF on civilian areas-including camps, hospitals, and neighborhoods-have become frequent, contributing to a growing humanitarian crisis.
The ongoing conflict between the RSF and Sudanese Armed Forces, which began in April 2023, has forced mass displacement and deepened instability across Darfur and other regions of Sudan.
