Overnight, Israeli forces carried out a major airstrike on Yemen's capital, Sanaa, following a missile attack by Houthi fighters targeting Israeli territory. The operation involved more than a dozen combat aircraft and struck multiple strategic locations, including military installations and critical infrastructure.

Areas surrounding the Houthi-controlled presidential compound, as well as energy and logistics hubs, sustained significant damage. Local authorities reported at least two fatalities and five injuries, and many parts of the city experienced power outages and structural damage. Crews are still assessing the full extent of the destruction.

Israeli officials described the operation as a direct response to ongoing provocations. Defense Minister Israel Katz said the strikes aimed to weaken the Houthis' military capabilities, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that further attacks would be met with continued consequences.

The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, had earlier claimed responsibility for firing long-range missiles into Israel, framing the attacks as an expression of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. They pledged to continue their assaults despite the Israeli retaliation.

The exchange highlights a worrying expansion of regional hostilities, placing Yemen at the center of a broader proxy conflict. For a population already enduring years of civil war and a severe humanitarian crisis, the renewed violence represents a grave and escalating threat.
