We are so quick to complain when people do things wrong but so slow to say thank you when people do amazing work. So, I just want to say that I am a 74-year-old disabled veteran.

Last summer, I took part in a pro-Gaza rally in Columbus, Ohio. A police officer with Columbus Police Department (CPD), who is almost my age, came to me as I was feeling dizzy and ready to pass out.

He asked me, "Are you okay, Sir?" to which I said, "I am not!" He suddenly shouted to a waitress in a nearby restaurant on the Short North part of the city to give him a glass of water. Upon drinking the water, I felt a little better. He then walked along my side for a few minutes to make sure I was fine.

This note is a belated thank you to Sergeant Peters and how grateful I am. I have run into him in subsequent rallies in Columbus in support of Palestine in which he was assigned security details. Sgt. Peters was the first to meet and greet me and asked how I was doing. He is really someone who you should know.

That is exactly what going above and beyond the call of duty means. It is putting in the extra effort. It involves doing more than is required, needed, or expected, often for noble reasons and without expecting anything in return.

A big shoutout to Sgt. Peters of CPD! He’s been a true blessing to me and to the city of Columbus with his hard work and unwavering spirit of kindness.
