Amer Ghalib, the first Arab American and Muslim mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan, was elected in 2021. A social conservative, he has implemented bans on pride flags on public flagpoles and restrictions on investments in Israeli companies. Born in Yemen, Ghalib immigrated to the U.S. in 1997, studied biology, and worked in healthcare. He endorsed Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
