The Day of Arafah, known as "Yawm al-Arafah" in Arabic, is the ninth day of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah.
It is one of the most significant days in the Islamic calendar, particularly for Muslims performing the Hajj pilgrimage. On this day, pilgrims gather at the Plain of Arafat, located near Mecca in Saudi Arabia, to stand in prayer and contemplation. This standing, known as "Wuquf," is considered the pinnacle of the Hajj rites.
The Day of Arafah holds profound spiritual significance as it is believed to be a day when Allah forgives the sins of those who sincerely repent and supplicate. Non-pilgrims also observe this day by fasting, as fasting on the Day of Arafah is highly recommended and is said to expiate the sins of the previous year and the year to come. The day precedes the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha, marking the end of Hajj.
