Respected Shaikh Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahe Wa Barkatuhu Please help us on the right way within the light of AL QUR'AN E HAKEEM and AHADITH of our beloved Prophet [S.A.W ], It is ok to decorate outside of MASAAJID with coloring & flashing minilight bulbs ( like the people of other faith does ) in the holy month of RAMADAN. please reply as soon as possible. Answer:
Dear Br. M. As-Salaamu Alaykum. Regarding your question, it is not allowed to decorate 
Masjids, because their real goal to be an area of worship. Decorating mosques is one  
of the signs of the HOUR, because it stips them from their real purpose besides the fact  
that it disturbs the devoutness of those who go there to perform their prayers, for which  
the mosque was built. The prohibition is even more legitimate when the decoration becomes 
similar to the way Christians decorate their churches, because in Islam, whoever  
imitates a Qaoum (or people), he will be joined and unite them o the Day of Judgement. 
Therefore, Mosques should be built with the idea of Taqwa (or God feaing and God 
consciousness) in mind. Still, there is no problem having the Mosques built strongly  
and architecturally beautiful (but not fancy) because they are an exhibition of Allah's  
symbols on earth which should bring taqwa to the hearts. And Allah Knows Best.
