As'salamualaikum,

Here we shall discuss the politics and all the affairs of the Indian muslims.

While the BJP is team A in the communal feelings but the congress is playing the role of team B. Those political parties, which do not have the guts to fight for the existence of secularism, they do not have right to be called as the secular parties.

Now a day the secular parties only make publicity to gain the votes but when it comes the time to give Muslims tickets in elections or according permission to the educational institutions or employment the so called secular parties do not exhibit their secularism.

The war against Narendra Modi would continue till we put him behind the bars for his sins he has made. The police machinery is not the only one, which is exhibiting communal face, but when we raise a voice against them the encouragers are being made accused. After the verdict of the lower court in the Haren Pandya Murder case the real fight against excesses and injustice has just begun. These were the excerpts of the lectures that were delivered by the renowned social activists of India.

The Siasat Daily has organized Siasat Extension Lecture on Fake Encounter Killings in India at Hyderabad that was headed by the Editor-in-Chief (The Siasat Daily) Janab Zahid Ali Khan. The fighting lady for the Muslims of riot hit Gujarat the renowned journalist and social activist Mrs.Teesta Setalvad told that the Gujarat riots have not taken place by over night and a atmosphere was created since many years.

She told that right from the school children the Hindu ideology was indoctrinated into their minds and now if we see at Lawyers bars Association, Teachers Association and in many other fields these communal people have been inserted and they from time to time keep the atmosphere warm.

It was found among the 15 year old school children in Gujarat that they were restricted in bringing Egg in their Tiffin boxes. But there is a need to ready children those who can fight for the Human rights in their real life Mrs. Setalvad told.

She also told that despite passing of five years of Godhra carnage till date there has been no clue about those who hatched a conspiracy for the incident but the Gujarat Home Minister immediately after the incident commented that the Godhra carnage is the handy work of Pakistans ISI. Mrs.

Teesta also quoted that in Haren Pandya Murder case investigation the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken the help of lie.

What do you think should be done? How long can we trust the Indian government to protect us? Should we not start preparing for defending ourselves?

ASSAULT ON FREEDOM: Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen activists trying to attack Bangladeshi novelist Taslima Nasrin at the Hyderabad Press Club on Thursday.

HYDERABAD: Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasrin was roughed up by legislators of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) and a mob led by them in the Press Club of Hyderabad on Thursday.

The feminist writer and author of several novels including Lajja which was about the treatment of Hindus by Muslims in Bangladesh was here on a visit to launch the translated versions of her works at a press conference. She had just completed her engagement when about 20 MIM activists, led by MLAs Syed Ahmed Pasha Qadri, Afsar Khan and Moazzam Khan, barged into the conference hall.

She looked in disbelief as they hurled abuses against her. Demanding to know who had mustered the guts to invite her to Hyderabad, they wanted Ms. Nasrin to be handed over to them.

Without further warning, they began throwing books, bouquets, chairs, and whatever they could lay their hands on at her. Some persons in the mob almost got hold of her but Narisetti Innaiah, rationalist and chairman of the Center for Inquiry, who was her host, shielded her. He was injured in his face. A couple of journalists who went to their rescue also sustained injuries in the scuffle.

Ms. Nasrin escaped unhurt though she was badly shaken by the sudden attack that came minutes after she made a categorical statement that she would continue to fight against evil till my death.

She said that she was not afraid of the fatwas issued by fundamentalist and extremist elements.

She had earlier released the Telugu version of her work Shodh translated by V. Komala, Dr. Innaiahs wife, and Jung Changs bestseller Wild Swans, a book proscribed in China.

Repeated requests by the journalists and the organisers to the MIM men to leave the place went unheeded. They broke the glass door of the conference hall where Ms. Nasrin was taking shelter, protected by the organisers and some press photographers. The protesters raised slogans against Ms. Nasrin.

The police, who intervened at this stage, arrested the MLAs and their supporters. Ms. Nasrin was then escorted out of the hall by police and moved to an undisclosed location in the city. She left for Kolkata by air later.

The MIM MLAs were charged with rioting, trespass, criminal intimidation, causing hurt and unlawful assembly. They were produced before a magistrate who released them on bail.

Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy condemned the attack and said stern action would be taken.

The American Trap -- Will We Fall in It?

Eternal vigil is the price of freedom and we have to be over vigilant to safeguard our hard-earned freedom. It is ironic that India, which celebrated its 60th Independence Day this month, should be compromising its independence, partially at least, by willingly accepting the dangerous provisions of Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement with the USA.

The country is virtually divided on this. It is not only the Left parties or the BJP that are opposing it. Intellectuals also are sharply divided on the dangerous implications of this deal. When the global policies of US administration in the recent past are studied, they appear to be oriented towards strengthening US interests and perpetuating its influence as long as it is possible. The US foreign policy experts have not kept secret their plans of perpetuating US hegemony.

The US administration swears by freedom, democracy and human rights. But its policies reveal the hollowness of these slogans. Now the US has become the greatest source of economic and political exploitation of weaker nations.

The world is watching in horror what type of democracy is being promoted in Iraq and Afghanistan; how human rights were protected in Abu Gharib and how human freedom is being honoured in Guntanamo. Broadly speaking, US policy is based on its selfish interest which is pursued by means of arms twisting, threats, intimidations, sanctions, regime change, subjugation and occupation. Development of weapons of mass destruction, arms race and wars also form an essential part of this policy.

Why did the US go to Vietnam to protect its own so-called national and geo-political interests or to promote democracy? The results are there to see for the whole world. The entire region was devastated and 2 to 3 million people including 500,000 civilians were killed.

The same administration is guilty of subjugating West Asian nations and enslaving the entire population by supporting Israeli regime and imposing its hegemony on the entire region.

Now come to this 123 Agreement. It has potential of influencing our independent foreign policies. It is already evident from the fact that in IAEA not once but twice we voted against Iran blocking its legitimate nuclear energy ambitions. Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline also is in danger because the US is continuously arm twisting us to drop it. We were not allowed to negotiate with Syria for oil exploration because America does not like Syria and brands it as a part of axis of evil. America is not concerned about our ever increasing energy needs. It does not bother if our energy supplies from Iran and Middle East are curtailed.

Besides this US is mounting pressure on us to increase our military and strategic ties with it. It wants us to come under its shadow and act as its proxy wherever it wants it so. If tomorrow it attacks Iran, we may have to give it logistic and military support. It is working in a diplomatic way to suck us into its sphere of influence. Indian government should act very cautiously, keeping in view our long term interests, our independence and sovereignty. Being a democracy we should take the Left and the Opposition into confidence. We require an open and wide ranging debate on desirability or otherwise of further pursuing this agreement. The US should not be allowed to act as another East India Company to enslave us once again.

'Operation Kalank': Modi backed rioters in Gujarat

Thursday, 25 October 2007
< =index.php method=post>
New Delhi, October 25: Tehelka on Thursday claimed it had "irrefutable" evidence that the killings of Muslims post-Godhra train carnage in Gujarat was "not a spontaneous swell of anger but a genocide" planned and executed by top functionaries of the Sangh Parivar and state authorities "with the sanction" of Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

he magazine's Editor-in-Chief Tarun Tejpal said at a press conference that it had done a sting operation over the last six months by talking to a number of Sangh Parivar leaders, including Godhra BJP MLA Haresh Bhatt, Shiv Sena leader Babu Bajrangi, who was earlier in VHP, and VHP leaders Anil Patel and Dhawal Jayanti Patel to bring out the truth.

The BJP reacted sharply saying Tehelka was acting as "CIA (Congress Investigating Agency) and it was a collusive sting which could hardly be called investigative journalism." Party spokesman Prakash Javedekar said the "dirty tricks department" of the Congress was at work again in view of the Assembly elections in Gujarat.

None of the leaders caught on camera in the expose was available for comments, except Gujarat VHP leader Dhawal Jayanti Patel who said Bajrangi had not talked to him during the riots and he had not seen the sting operation.

Bhatt was purportedly caught on tape saying he was present in a meeting in which Modi allegedly gave him three days time "to do whatever they wanted".

"After three days, he (Modi) asked to stop and everything came to a halt," Bhatt said adding the Chief Minister thanked them after the Naroda Patiya masssacre.

The magazine claimed Dhawal Jayanti Patel told its undercover reporter that the VHP activists made lots of bombs in a factory owned by him.

A BJP MLA was shown as saying they even made rocket launchers which were used in the pogrom. It also claimed that it has exposed "a trail of lies and coercions" that establishes the fire in coach S-6 of the Sabarmati Express in Godhra on February 27, 2002 was a case of spontaneous mob fury and not a pre-meditated conspiracy as stated by the Gujarat government.

Tehelka claims proof of Modis role in Muslim carnage

ARE ALL THE POOR TARGETED IN INDIA?  I THINK IT MAY BE SO...

Some 27,000 landless people gathered in New Delhi, hoping to march to Parliament with a single demand give us land. But police locked them up Monday, chaining the gates to the vast Ramlila fairgrounds and barricading the demonstrators inside.

Monday had been planned as the culmination of a monthlong, 185-mile march north from the city of Gwalior to the national capital with this message: The masses have been largely untouched by India's economic boom.

"Day-by-day the Sensex goes up but the common people get nothing from this," said Anil Gupta, a march organizer, referring to the Bombay Stock Exchange's benchmark index, which closed at a record high Monday.

"People here are asking only for the basics. There is no greed. They don't want clothes or electricity, just land so they can feed themselves," he said.

After police barricaded the protesters inside the dusty fairgrounds Monday, they settled in, saying they would stay as long as it takes at least they were getting one meal a day from the organizers. At home, they have nothing.

The call for land resonates in a country where some 70 percent of India's 1.1 billion people are dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods, many eking out an existence as subsistence farmers or itinerant laborers.

Poverty is rife. About 450 million Indians live on less than $1 a day, according to the World Bank.

The march brought together India's traditionally landless people the "untouchables" and tribals at the bottom of the country's complex social ladder and the newly landless, forced from their fields by new economic projects.

Dherum joined the march in the jungles of India's Madhya Pradesh state, the inspiration for Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book." He feeds his five children on about 50 cents a day, made by selling firewood foraged from the jungles.

"I just want a small piece of land so I can grow some vegetables," said the 35-year-old, who like many from India's indigenous tribes goes by one name.

"My father died doing this work, I'll die doing this," he said. "Give us some land to farm, nothing else."

India is trying to attract foreign investment to spur its economy and help develop its largely backward infrastructure. In part, it has chosen to do this by setting up Special Economic Zones, where companies get tax breaks to open businesses and factories.

But critics say farmers are often forced from their land or cheated of its value when it is acquired for these projects.

Priya Bishnu's family has fished eastern India's massive Chilika Lake for prawns for centuries. But they left the area recently after large companies were granted the right to set up huge prawn farms in the lake.

"When the government gives the multinational companies land, where does it come from? That's our land," the 33-year-old said.

"It should be our right to fish the lake and sell the prawns," she said, sitting with other marchers under a sign of independence leader Mohandas K. Gandhi.

Their protest has been peaceful, in keeping with the passive resistance set out by Gandhi, but the fears and frustrations of others have overflowed into violence.

The government canceled a plan to acquire 22,000 acres of land in eastern India for a petrochemical plant and shipyard after the deaths of 14 farmers in clashes with police. Another 15 people have died in sporadic violence.

March organizers demand a national body be created to look into the land issue and amend India's vague property laws and endemic corruption that allow farmers to be strong-armed off their land by powerful landowners.

In an apparent answer to the protests, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's office announced late Monday that a National Land Reforms Council with Singh as chairman would be established. Officials in his office were not available to discuss details.

But activists were skeptical.

"They talk about helping the average man, but the policies are anti-poor," said Gupta, noting that legislation already enacted to provide land rights to the tribes has not been enforced.

"But when a multinational needs land, the government organizes everything for them," he said.

Setusamudram Project
Another Ayodhya in the Making

By: DR. SHAKEEL SAMDANI

The Central Governments filing of affidavit on the Setusamudram Project on September 10-11, 2007 provided enough ammunition for the BJP and its associates, who had been sitting idle without any mass appeal issue since 2004. The BJP thought it fit to seize the opportunity and turn the issue into an emotional one by relating it directly to Rama in the same manner as they had done in case of the Babri Mosque issue. In fact, it is the Central government, which, knowingly or unknowingly, gave this opportunity to them by first filing the said affidavit and then taking it back hurriedly. It seems that the Congress is working on the same lines as it had done during the Ayodhya issue, giving direct benefit to the Sangh Parivar. Setusamudram Ship Channel Project is almost 150-year old. It was conceived by an Englishman, Commander A.D. Tailor in 1860. He had placed a project of constructing the channel by removing rocks. After independence, in 1955, then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru constituted a committee, which gave its opinion in favour of the construction of the channel. In 1983 and 1996, two more committees were formed to look into the matter and finally in 2002, NDA government accorded its approval to the project by allocating 5 crore rupees in the budget. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated the project on October 25, 2005. Four ministers of the erstwhile NDA government, namely Arun Jaitley, V.P. Goyal, S. Tharun Karasar and Shatrughan Sinha took active interest in the project. It is yet to be analysed why deliberations and consultations had been going on to construct the channel for the last 147 years? In fact, the channel will minimise the distance by nearly 780 kms for sailing ships and the time involved will also come down by 30 to 45 hours. Indias shores are almost 7517 kms and there are 12 large and 185 small shipyards. But the main hurdle before the Indian shipping is that the ships have to go round Sri Lanka before reaching eastern ports from western ones. It is not only for the commercial ships but even the ships of Indian Navy and coastguards have to adopt this circuitous route to reach eastern side from the western side. Every ship has to sail 425 nautical miles (780 kms) more, which involves wastage of money and time. One should also have a knowledge of Setusamudram/Adam Bridge. A stretch, known as Pak Street between Sri Lanka and Tamilnadu, covers the area up to Bay of Bengal. It derives its name from the Governor of Madras Presidency Robert Pak. A series of rocks exists in this area covering almost 30 kms when seen from above or photographed. It gives an impression of a broken bridge. According to Christians of Sri Lanka, Adam was thrown in India and Hawwa (Eve) in Sri Lanka after their expulsion from the Paradise. Adam reached Sri Lanka by crossing this bridge to meet Hawwa. Some Muslim scholars have also opined in the same manner. But there is no proof of its credibility. Likewise, the Hindus believe that when Ravana kidnapped Sita, the wife of Rama, and detained her in Sri Lanka. It was Hanuman who constructed the bridge with the help of monkeys, so that the army of Rama might cross and attack Sri Lanka. But there is no scientific or historical support to this view. In fact, Geographists and Archaeologists opine that the stone formation is a natural phenomenon and it is only a coincidence that it stretches in a sequence up to 30 kms. During East India Companys rule and also under British rule several efforts were made to minimise the distance between western ports and eastern ones. In 1860 Townspeed, in 1882 Parliamentary Committee, in 1863 William, in 1871 Robertson, in 1872 Johncode, in 1884 South Indian Railway Engineers and in 1923 Robertson Brastoo Committees were constituted but due to reasons best known to the erstwhile rulers, the project could not take off and now it has become a headache for the Manmohan Singh government. Presently it has provided sufficient grounds for the BJP to mobilise Hindu masses just before assembly elections in the Gujarat. It will be appropriate to return to political side of Setusamudram after discussing historical and economic aspects. UPA government has erred already. At the time of filing the affidavit, it should have been careful as the issue is very sensitive. Paragraph 20 of the affidavit should not have discussed about existence of Rama at all. The government should have confined itself to the issue by saying that it has no proof about the 30 km long stretch under the sea to be Setusamudram or Adams bridge. Secondly, they must have pointed out that construction of the channel is important on economic and strategic count. Indian Navy and Coast Guards will have better opportunities, if the channel is constructed and put to naval use. The government should have desisted from opinion on the existence of Rama because in religious beliefs many points cannot be backed up by logic, history or scientific analysis. Congress has done such a blunder, knowingly or unknowingly, that is a matter of further observation. But in past, the Congress blundered on sensitive issues. The best example of such blunders is Babri Masjid issue. Now, the Congress is declaring that the project was sanctioned during NDA regime and the then Tamilnadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had also accorded approval. The UPA government is only executing their plans. But as the Congressmen lack will and resources to present their good deeds before masses, this theory rather truth is falling flat on the ground. On the other hand, it has provided a good opportunity for Sangh Parivar to exploit religious sentiments of the majority community. If we take into account economic aspects, we find that the total cost of the construction of two channels comes to about Rs. 2427 crore. When these channels are ready and open for naval use, the ships will be able to sail 780 km less and it will thus increase traffic on the way. Even before the completion of the project, the Government of India will earn rupees 1000 crore yearly and the profit will further go up to Rs. 5000 crore in the coming 10-15 years. The channels will serve Indias interest just like the Suez Canal is serving Egypts. Its construction will be fruitful to India in many ways. In short, it can be concluded that the Setusamudram Project is in the national interest. It is not a new concept because for the last 147 years it has been in the thinking line of various regimes. The British tried it, Jawaharlal Nehru made efforts in that direction, Indira Gandhi also paid attention to it but it got sanction during the Vajpayee regime. It means it has consent and approval of 26 national and regional political parties. Subramaniyam Swami, who filed the petition in the Supreme Court, had also extended his support to it. It is in national interest; hence Manmohan Singh Government not only approved it but went on to execute it in October, 2005. Though the project has to be completed in 2008 but the Apex Court has stayed it for the time being. Setusamudram Project is a living example of dirty politics of Indian political establishment. The political parties that approved it in the beginning are opposing it now. Almost two thirds work on the project has been completed and the target was to complete it in 2008 but now it has received a setback. As the Sangh Parivar is expected to reap rich harvest by this ongoing controversy, it may linger on till the coming Lok Sabha elections. The irony is that the Sangh Parivar and the BJP are giving it communal colour too by taking reference of Muslims and Christians. BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad has unnecessarily mentioned the sacred names of Prophet Muhammad and Prophet Isa (Jesus) peace and blessings of Allah be with them. Pravin Togadia mentioned even the name of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb for making Muslims a party though there is no conflict between Hindus and Muslims on this count. In fact, the conflict of opinion and interest lies between L.K. Advani and Chief Minister of Tamilnadu M. Karunanidhi. BJP Member of Parliament, Vedanti made a statement in Parliament to cut off the head and tongue of Karunanidhi (though he later on retracted his statement because there was danger of his being disqualified from membership of Parliament). Muslims neither oppose to the construction of the channels nor do they favour it. Political parties should decide their future course of action keeping in view national interest and not their narrow political agenda. India is a democratic nation and democracy has certain obligations. Hence, it is better for them and the nation as well to have constructive approach. All parties involved in the controversy should give preference to the prosperity and security of country over all other considerations.

'Scapegoats and Holy Cows' The Indian State's 'Response' to Terrorism

Each  time there is a bomb blast like the recent one in Jaipur,  the Indian State reaches out its 'long arms of injustice' to pick a scapegoat from amidst the Indian population to cover up its own incompetence in providing security to its citizens.

The hapless creature, decorated and demonized by the 'fashion designers' of Indian officialdom, is then paraded before the entire nation to create a public spectacle prior to its ritual sacrifice.

The armchair warriors then call for 'tougher laws' to deal with terrorism while the scapegoat disappears forever into the black hole of the Indian prison system.

That the 'prime suspects' in such cases always happen to be bearded young Muslim men and Islamic theologists to boot is not a surprise at all. In the racist imagination of theadministration, police , intelligence agencies ,  security forces, sections of the media and politicians all the criminals in this country wear their 'criminality' on their faces- the suspects are always MAD- Muslim, Adivasi, Dalit.

The latest example of such scapegoating comes from Jaipur where within hours of the heinous bomb blasts that killed innocent people the state police has started harassing, arresting and deporting Bangladeshi and Bengali speaking Muslims in the city.

What we have witnessed in the last decade is that after each blast or surprise violent act, arrests are made, organisations named but the police and investigative agencies have not been able to prove their claims in any of the cases. But the people arrested continue to languish in jails or suffer other kinds of victimisation. It is very disturbing as it shows that the agencies responsible for the security of the people are incapable and to cover their inefficiency, they keep abducting people from the minority community which are produced at their chosen time. The real culprits remain at bay and the threat remains undiminished.

However, The Indian state's treatment of scapegoats is in stark contrast to the 'holy cows' it protects, irrespective of their trespasses or crimes against the people of the country.

Whether it be the Hashimpura massacre of 1987, the  Babri Masjid demolition and the Mumbai massacre of 1992, the Gujarat genocide of 2002 or the Nanded bomb blasts of 2002, the real culprits are either never apprehended and even if they are - never punished. Despite the open involvement of the leaders of the BJP and Shiv Sena ,  RSS, VHP and other Sangh outfits in a systematic  and consistent hate campaign, organised communal massacres and in  stockpiling and  manufacture of arms they are never declared terrorist organisations and banned. Open armed parade by the RSS , Trishul dikshas Dikshas are tolerated and allowed. They are the  holy cows who are never touched.

It is time to end the division of the Indian people into scapegoats or holy cows and ensure equal justice to all irrespective of caste, class, community or religion. And to achieve this we the citizens of India have to pledge to fight atrocities of the Indian State and its holy cows wherever they occur, from the smallest to the highest levels in the country.

This convention on 'Scapegoats and Holy Cows- The State's 'Response to Terrorism' therefore condemns:

- The way innocent people, especially Muslims, across India are being harassed, picked up, arrested and tortured in the name of fighting terrorism;

- The existence of draconian 'anti-terrorist' laws like the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, ASPA,1958 and calls for more new ones that will suspend basic Constitutional rights as this will only worsen the problem of  terrorism and never solve it.

-    The victimization of the entire Muslim community in the country without a proper investigation of the role of specific individuals who may come from any community in the country;

-    The failure of the Indian Home Ministry and national security agencies in providing proper intelligence on terrorist activities and protecting the lives of innocent civilians;

- Attempts to prevent lawyers from providing legal assistance to those arrested on 'suspicion' of being involved in the 'terrorist' act;

We further demand the Indian government:

-    Repeal all repressive laws that have replaced POTA at both the national and state level or are already part of the Indian Penal Code as also the Armed Forces Special Powers Act and the Disturbed Areas Act;

- Stop promoting civil war through the unconstitutional arming civilians to fight 'terrorists' as in the case of Salwa Judum in Chattisgarh and also in the Indian northeast and Kashmir;

-    Closely investigate the involvement of the RSS, VHP and other Sangh outfits in terrorist bomb blasts and attacks as also their vast  network of individuals and institutions propagating anti-Constitutional values;

-    Present a White Paper to the Indian public on the follow up and results of investigations into various terrorist attacks that have happened in the country over the last twenty years;

- Present a White Paper on the numbers of Muslims, Adivasis and Dalits imprisoned in the country and the status of the cases against them;

-Stop harassing human rights activists and release with due compensation to all innocent people arrested and tortured in the name of countering terrorism;

-    Make the Indian intelligence service accountable for its grand failures in either warning the public or catching the real masterminds behind terrorist attacks despite all the huge sums of taxpayer money spent on them;

- End the culture of fake encounters that has taken hold within the Indian security forces seeking material rewards for their anti-terrorism operations;

- Evolve a humane national policy towards foreign migrant labour coming into India from neighbouring countries particularly migrant Muslims, if necessary by promoting a visa-free regime for South Asia;

- End the rampant corruption of border security forces that has criminalised the entire migration process and aggravated the problems of both migrants and host populations;

We on our part as citizens of India pledge to;

-     Fight the demonisation of Muslims and other communities in the country by the Indian state as also sectarian, communal political forces in the country;

-     Set up an independent Commission comprising retired judges, eminent intellectuals, retired police officials, and journalists to probe into atrocities and discrimination against Muslim as part of anti-terrorism operations;

A well-known social activist, he has played a leading role in the struggle against communalism in India , including against Hindutva terrorism, about which he talks in this interview with Yoginder Sikand

Q: How do you explain the recent wave of bomb blasts that have taken place across India ? How can this dangerous phenomenon be tackled?

A: Clearly, behind such attacks is a certain ideology at work whose major objective is to create hatred between the different communities. That, rather than just killing innocent people, is the real objective of those behind these dastardly and cowardly acts. These forces, who could be both internal as well as external, and who could include extremist Hindus, extremist Muslims or others, clearly do not want people of the different communities to live in peace with each other.

Among the various steps that should be taken to counter this form of terrorism is for people to isolate the forces within their own respective religious communities that seek to foment communal hatred. If a Hindu name emerges as being behind a certain terrorist attack, it is for Hindus, in particular, to fiercely condemn such a person or organization, not just as a criminal but also as anti-Hindu. And the same holds true for how Muslims should respond if the person or outfit behind a terror attack bears a Muslim name. Terrorism cannot be tackled simply by the government machinery without this sort of social or public mobilization against it. In this, it is particularly crucial that we desist from branding or associating any particular community with terrorism, because terrorism does not know any barrier of community. It is wrong to associate t with any religion. It is also crucial, as I suggested, that if a person claiming to belong to a particular community engages in an act of terror, those others who also belong to the same community must fiercely condemn his act as not just being a crime but also a gross violation of the religious teachings of the community in question. Only then can these elements be denied any social sanction or support.

And this is now beginning to happen. A number of leading Muslim clerics have issued fatwas against any form of terrorism, no matter what the religion of the perpetrator. And so I would like Hindu leaders to also begin to say the same thing. Recently, I issued a statement on behalf of the Arya Samaj appealing to all Hindu religious leaders not to support those Hindutva activists who have been accused in the Modassa and Malegaon terror attack cases. I appealed to them to expose Hinduvta terrorists, for they are giving the entire Hindu community a bad name. I pointed out that numerous Muslim ulema or religious leaders have organized mass rallies and have issued fatwas condemning all forms of terrorism, including that engaged in by self-styled jihadist groups. Recently, I attended a huge inter-faith conference in Madrid to denounce all forms of terrorism, which was organized by the King of Saudi Arabia. I suggested that Hindu religious leaders should also do the same and forcefully condemn all forms of terrorism, including that done in the name of Hinduism or by Hindus, as anti-Hindu, anti-religion and anti-human.

I made the same point at the National Integration Council meeting that was recently held in Delhi , where I said that leading Indian maulvis are issuing fatwas against all forms of terrorism and organizing mass rallies, some of which I have also addressed, to denounce it, and I asked why Hindu religious leaders were not doing the same.

Q: What has been the result of this appeal of yours to Hindu religious leaders? Are they coming out to forcefully condemn terror engaged in by Hindutva groups, just as many Muslim clerics are now openly speaking against terrorism done in the name of Islam?

A: Unfortunately, many Hindu religious leaders continue to remain silent on this. To remain silent on such a heinous matter can, in some cases, be construed as tacit approval. But I am still making efforts to make them realize the gravity of the situation.

Q: In recent years there is a growing tendency in some circles to associate Islam, in particular, with terrorism. How do you see this development?

A: I think this is completely unfair. It is a product of the imperialist agenda of certain Western powers that need to create the spectre of radical Islamism as allegedly posing an immense threat to the West so as to help the West justify its continuing hegemony, its global power and its control over West Asian oil resources. Using this warped logic, and without any evidence, America has attacked and devastated Afghanistan and Iraq and seems to be bent on taking on the whole Muslim world. George Bush openly calls for a 'crusade', and thus seeks to lend credence to the thoroughly bankrupt theory of the 'clash of civilisations' . The Western media has been forcefully propagating this thesis, and now, especially after 9/11, large sections of the Indian media are also parroting the same bogus theory.

To repeat, to seek to associate terrorism with any religion or community is completely wrong. I think, and I have said this publicly, that George Bush is the world's No. 1 terrorist. It was the Western establishment that, along with its client regimes, created the Taliban and armed Saddam, and the Bin Laden family is a business partner of the Bush family. In the same way, the Congress, under Indira Gandhi, propped up Bhindaranwala, but he later turned into a Frankenstein. Likewise, the first victim of terrorism in free India , Mahatma Gandhi, was killed by a Hindu, not a Muslim. It was not a Muslim who killed Indira Gandhi or Rajiv Gandhi. And so you can easily see through the falsity of the slogan, 'All Muslims may not be terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims' that is so frequently mouthed today.

Q: What do you have to say about the recent revelations about some Hindutva groups being involved in fomenting terrorism in India ?

A: Yes, this phenomenon exists and the media is gradually bringing it to light. Hindutva ideologues have been consistently seeking to equate Islam and Muslims with terrorism but now that evidence is surfacing of the close involvement of radical Hindutva outfits in terrorism they are saying that terrorism must not be sought to be associated with any religion. But this is precisely what they were doing all this while with regard to Islam. They are saying that the so-called Sadhvi who has been arrested in connection with the Malegaon blasts should not be called a 'terrorist'. Rather, they say, she should be termed as an 'accused' because the charges against her have not been as yet proved by the courts. But if that is the case, then why do they refer to the Muslims nabbed by the police, but against whom the courts have not passed their verdicts, as 'Islamic terrorists', without demanding the same sort of proof? You can call them 'suspects' or 'accused', but why jump to the conclusion that all of them are actually terrorists without the charges against them being proven?

There is ample evidence to show that Hindutva groups have been involved in planning and executing acts of terror, but, unfortunately, for its own political purposes, the Government has done little to curb this and has sought to play this down. Nor has the media given this the serious attention that it deserves. Such terror attacks obviously help the Hindutva lobby as they widen the Hindu-Muslim chasm, which, in turn, makes it easier to play on Hindu sentiments in order to win Hindu votes. One cannot rule out the possibility of Hindutva elements in being behind some of the other blasts besides the ones in Malegaon, Modassa, Nanded, Kanpur and so on that are now coming to light. Blasts could have been done by any group, Hindu or Muslim or whatever, but it is wrong to jump to a conclusion without proper investigation.

But let me come back to the Malegaon terror case. I recently held a press conference where I pointed out that a television channel, Sudarshan TV, which is very close to the RSS, reported the Malegaon bomb blast almost as soon as it had happened, before other, large channels reported it. This might be additional evidence of Hindutva radicals being behind the terror attack. And, of course, other possible evidence is also emerging. If the so-called Sadhvi and the army officer and others who are accused are found to be guilty, they must be socially ostracized by the Hindu society. If this so-called Sadhvi, dressed in the saffron robes of a sanyasin, is really involved in this blast it is a matter of great shame for Hindus. Hindutva terrorists are a blot on the name of Hindu society. It seems that they have taken upon themselves the task of giving Hinduism a bad name, to give it the shape of terrorism. In actual fact, they are enemies of Hinduism and the Hindu society. They want to divide and thereby destroy the country, using terror for building their vote-banks.

Q: Do you think there is any ideological link between radical Hindutva and terrorism?

A: The roots of the notion of Hindutva go back to Savarkar, who coined the term in the 1920s. Before that, he appeared to champion Hindu-Muslim solidarity, but following his stay in jail in the Andaman Islands his views completely changed, and he then started claiming that the Hindus and Muslims of India were, in effect, two different nations. He appealed to Hindus to militarise themselves. He argued that those who did not follow religions that were born in India were not real patriots or genuine Indians. And so, according to this poisonous thesis, Muslims and Christians were to be considered as not true Indians, deserving of, at best, second-grade citizenship.

This thesis of Hindutva gave a handle to the proponents of a separate Muslim state of Pakistan . I am convinced that if there was no Hindutva, there would have been no separate Pakistan , and India would have remained one. And the millions of Muslims who stayed behind in India after the Partition I consider to be much more patriotic than the Hindutva-walas, because the former were offered the dream of a seeming utopia, of 'heaven', if they migrated to Pakistan , but they refused to migrate, and, instead, they stayed on in their homeland. And this they did despite all the immense threats, challenges and fear that they were forced to face, and despite the repeated anti-Muslim pogroms and pervasive discrimination. Who, then, can dare question their patriotism?

So, let me unhesitatingly say, yes, the ideology of Hindutva, as we know it, is inextricably linked to terrorism, in both theory as well as in practice. And I would go further and say that Hindutva is even worse than thatit is sheer fascism. Let me also say that the greatest victims and sufferers of Hindutva fascism will not be Muslims or Christians, but, rather, Hindus themselves.

Q: Why do you say that?

A: I say this because history clearly tells us that if any form of fascism is not combated by the community or people in whose name it claims to speak, it will eventually destroy that people or community. Thus, when Hitler went about massacring the Jews the German Christians remained silent, and because they did not oppose his Nazism they had to face huge loss of German life in the Second World War. When Bhindaranwale and his henchmen went about killing Hindus, many Sikhs remained quiet, and eventually more Sikhs than Hindus were killed by the Khalistanis. In Kashmir , self-styled Islamist extremists have killed many times more Muslims than Hindus. Likewise, because radical Islamist groups in Pakistan were fanned by the state, and there was no effective Muslim protest against them, they now pose a potent threat to the peace and prosperity of the people of Pakistan , the vast majority of who are Muslims, and many Pakistani Muslims have fallen victim to them. So, I find that there is no reason to believe that if Hindus do not speak out and assertively protest against Hindutva fascism they would not have to suffer immensely later. It will prove to be a disaster for them, and, besides this, it would only give India a bad name. I firmly believe that all forces, groups and people that are genuinely concerned about the welfare of India , must stand up against Hindutva fascism.

Q: What do you feel about the way the government has gone about seeking to tackle the problem of terrorism?

A: There is no uniform approach across the country. So, for instance, we witnessed the state-sponsored genocide and massive wave of terror in Gujarat in 2002, that caused the deaths of vast numbers of innocent Muslims. The way this genocide was launched, with such precision, made me suspect that one cannot rule out the possibility that the burning of the coach of Sabarmati Express might have been orchestrated by Modi himself to fan anti-Muslim hatred and garner Hindu votes.

But the role of the state in such heinous violence targeted against innocent people, which is a form of terrorism, did not start with Modi. The nefarious role of top bosses in the Congress Party in orchestrating the large-scale massacre of Sikhs in 1984 is well-known. So, various governments have sought to fan violence against minorities for their own political purposes, and no discussion of terrorism in India can leave out this crucial dimension.

We also have to talk of and speak out against other forms of terrorism. The killing of some 3000 innocent people in America on 9/11 was a terrible crime, and it must be condemned, but the West does not want us to talk of other forms of terrorism in which Western powers and elites are directly implicated. Some 7000 children die in India daily, mainly due to poverty, which is caused by a skewed and totally inhuman notion of 'development' propagated by Indian and Western elites. Is this not a form of terrorism also? In some senses, it is a worse form of terrorism, not only because it is of a far greater magnitude but also because it causes prolonged pain and suffering to its victims, unlike those who die in an instant in a terrorist attack. Some twenty-five thousand dowry-deaths of women are recorded every year in India . Is this not also a form of terrorism? Is not female foeticide a form of terrorism?

The point I am making is that all forms of terrorism, whether in the name of religion, community, nation, gender or whatever, needs to be sternly condemned and struggled against. Let us not be selective in our approach, because terrorism anywhere is a danger to humanity everywhere.

Mumbai attack is as grave as Gandhijis killing and Babri Masjid demolition

Hyderabad, November 27 (Siasat News): Renowned journalist and human rights activist Mr. Amrish Mishra expressed his strong reaction over the terrorist attack and said that this conspiracy was hatched by Israels Mussed and notorious communal party RSS.

This attack is as grave as the killing of Mahatma Gandhi and demolition of Babri Masjid. The same communal forces are involved in this conspiracy also. Talking to Siasat late last night from Mumbai, Mr. Mishra claimed that the killing of brave ATS officers who were in the concluding stage of the investigations of Malegaon blast which could have shown the real face of the saffron parties and the beginning of the firing from Nariman House where substantial number of Jews are living, clearly shows that this was an anti-national act of terror with Israels Missals hand in grave because this kind of attack is just not possible by RSS alone.

Whatever has happened the entire last night in Mumbai could be concluded that it was the joint effort of Mussed with RSS. The irony of it is that those ATS officers, who were assigned the duties of Malegaon blasts, were on the verge of making their report final and all three of them were eliminated. They are Mr. Hemant Karkare, DIG Ashok Kale and encounter specialist Vijay Salazar.

Their killing has proved that it was the handy work of the anti-national forces. This is also equivalent to the killing of the officer Mr. Sharma who was shot dead at Batla House encounter. Mr. Amrish Mishra added that Nariman house has many Jews tenants and the beginning of the firing from there create many doubts. He said that he was watching the TV and clearly saw that Mr. Hemant Karkare was wearing the helmet to get ready for the confrontation and imagine my astonishment that after half an hour, I got the news that Mr. Hemant Karkare was killed. Circumstances would take what turn, no one can say at present. He also said that after the attack, some miscreants had come on the road with saffron flags and chanting anti-Muslim slogans but people drove them out.

Those who are very much in touch with the situation dont seem to believe that these attacks are the handy work of any Muslim terrorist organization because people can no longer be taken for a ride. They know who are behind these attacks. He opined that Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil should immediately tender his resignation. He had links with RSS in the past. On taking responsibility by Deccan Mujahedeen, Mr. Mishra said neither Home Minister nor chief minister had confirmed this.

Only some Hindi channels had given the news of Deccan Mujahedeen. Many Gujaratis had expressed their fear while talking to TV channels that at Nariman House, the number of Jews tenants is increasing day by day which is a threat because their (Jews) activities are suspicious. In this regard, a police complaint was also lodged with the police. They are of the opinion that if police had taken action against, this situation as of now, would not have arisen at all.

An Open Letter to Hon'ble Prime Minister

Dr. Manmohan Singh

Honble Prime Minister of India

September 8, 2009, 1.02am

Dear Dr Manmohan Singh.

I had written a small article in The Hindustan Times in June 2004. It was called Come Shoot Me: I am a Terrorist. It was to express my anguish on Ishrat Jahans killing in Gujarat.

The Magisterial Enquiry, which is mandatory in every encounter case (and which was never done in the Batla House encounter) has finally termed it Ishrat jahans killing as a fake encounter yesterday in a metropolitan court. It is not a matter of surprise for us as we knew that she was killed in cold blood. Perhaps you will also agree that such things are happening and happened in Gujarat under Modi. But I am not writing to talk about how bad Modi is.

I am writing this to ask you a small favour.

I know you have absolutely hectic schedules and thousands of issues to handle so I am putting down here the facts, gathered from various media reports.

On June 15, 2003, the Ahmedabad city crime branch, then headed by the now jailed IPS officer D G Vanzara, shot four young people Ishrat Jahan, Javed Shaikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjad Ali Rana  and Jisan Johar. It was propagated that these four young people were alleged Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operatives who were allegedly on mission to kill chief minister Narendra Modi.

Ishrat, was a 19-year old student of Khalsa College in Mumbra, a Mumbai suburb.

Ishrat's mother filed a petition in the high court in 2004 demanding death compensation and a CBI probe. Ishrat Jahans mothers Petition alleged that it was a fake encounter as one of the many that the present government regime in Gujarat headed by Narendra Modi had done to achieve Political Mileage to publicly create panic and sympathy that the Chief Minister was sought to be assassinated.

The crime branch carried out the operation and the same agency conducted investigation.

When the petition was heard by Justice KS Jhaveri , he immediately proposed, almost on line taken by the Supreme Court in the infamous Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, for which Vanzara was jailed along with other policemen, that a five-member team - all of the rank of additional DGP - should probe this case.

The encounter was done by the infamous D. G. Vanzara and his team who are presently arrested under Orders of the Honble Supreme Court in the case of fake encounter of Sohrabuddin and his wife Kausarbi. Sohrabuddins encounter has been admitted by the state to be fake and recently on 11/08/2008, they have agreed to deposit an amount of Rs. 10.00 Lakhs as interim ex-gratia compensation for being paid to the Kith and Kin of the two.

There are allegedly 28 encounters which were fake and have been covered up.

In Ishrat Jahans matter the CBI was impleaded as a Party and it took a stand that if the Court so orders they are willing to carry out fresh investigations and unearth the truth. Such stand triggered panic with the State Government and it seems even with some Officers of Central Home Ministry.  After UPA came to power some tainted CBI officers placed in Gujarat during the NDA with questionable track record were removed after  a lot of pressure and almost two years but they soon found plush positions in Delhi under UPA regime.

To our dismay we realized last month through the media reports that the Ministry of Home Affairs in an affidavit stated that Ishrat, Javed and two others Jisan Johar and Amjad Ali Rana were all operatives of Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Toiba.

Maintaining that the four were terrorists, the Union government told the high court, "No proposal for CBI investigation is under consideration of the Centre nor does it consider the present case fit for CBI probe."

Moreover, the Centre claimed that there is no question of independent inquiry, as an additional DGP (CID & Intelligence) had carried out an independent probe into the incident and the officer is neither working with crime branch nor is he a subordinate to the crime branch, which carried out the operation and later investigated the case itself."

If you remember Honble prime Minister when I met you regarding the Package for the Gujarat 2002 victims along with other activists from Gujarat I had jokingly said, The news that UPA has replaced NDA at the centre has not reached your Home Ministry as yet. I had said this precisely in the connection of how the tainted officers promoted by the BJP were still being pampered under the UPA.

The reason behind filing of the Affidavit by the Central Government was to dissuade the Court from appointing a strong S I T and give a message that even the Central Government had approved the act of fake encounter. But for the magisterial enquiry the Central Home Ministry had left no stone unturned to prove that Ishrat deserved to be killed.

The logic used always is what will happen to the morale of the officers. My question is what happens to the morale of the officers when they torture innocent young people, when they kill them, when they illegally detain them, beat them. What happens to their morale then? Do they just go home and sleep?

Why dont we as nation stop playing the farce of being a secular nation and why dont we remove the article from the constitution which says all citizens are equal?

The affidavit filed by the Home Ministry is a proof of the fact that in Ishrat Jahans fake encounter case UPA has connived with the Gujarat government in a blatantly communal manner. With 3 days to go before assembly bye election in 7 seats in Gujarat 5 more innocent boys have been picked up in Baroda and declared' terrorists'.

I do not know if this letter will be also lost on the way and find itself in a dustbin as I have never received any acknowledgment from your office, so I will be forced to circulate it to others to lodge a strong protest against this blatant connivance of the Home Ministry with the Gujarat government.

My request to you is that if your government has any political will then please ask your home ministry to tender a public apology for filing the affidavit against the innocent girl who was so brutally murdered. It requires some courage and conviction.

You are fond of poetry.

Faiz ke chand lines apki nazar kar rahi hoon:

Tujh ko kitnon ka lahoo chahiye ae arz-i-watan, Jo tiray arz-i-berang ko gulnaar karein

Kitni aahon se kaleja tira thanda hoga, Kitne aansoo tiray sehraon ko gulzaar karein

(
The blood of how many do you need O motherland;That which will brighten your colourless earth;

How many sighs will soothe your heart; How many tears will cause your deserts to bloom.)

 Sincerely Yours

Good Morning Mr. Seekshidayath!

The articles have been beautifully composed, but I feel that the thread shows India in a poor light for you have only posted the negative issues. It would have been nice if you have posted the achievements of the Indian Muslims and India in general.

I love my country India and I would want to know what do you think we can do to make India a better place to live.

What I think is if we help people around us irrespective of their religion, caste, creed etc. and concentrate on positive things and attitudes we can make India better. And I feel that no amount of brooding and complaining will do any better to our country.

Belated Gandhi Jayanti wishes!

Have a great day ahead!

Hello Naren,

Welcome to the discussions at Islamicity

Thanks for correcting me in a well manner. My apologies for it. I shud  have had named the topic differently. My intention was to  show-up the pains we muslims in India are facing.

But yes, as you said, neither brooding nor complaining shall work. Insha Allah, shall take care here onwards.

Actually, Naren i was n't complaining but trying to bring up awareness amongst we muslims of India, to stay awake and alert against the forces working against us.

Good Morning Seekshidayath,

Thank you for your welcome. :)

No apologies please. I wasn't expecting apologies. I just pointed out what I felt.

India is a massive country with a lot of problems. Of course, we Hindus have been biased, arrogant and what not. We too have suffered for it. We suffered for our karma. Everyone has suffered irrespective of their religion, social status and still suffering. Even the rich suffered.

India is a secular country and I feel that we all should be awake against the non-secular forces. We have suffered at lot because of those chauvinists. We should be against anything which stunts our growth and not make fun of each others religions.

Have a nice time always.

Hello Naren

Thanks for the reply

There are various subjects to be discussed from your post, but again it may be clash of our thoughts. Islam teaches us peace. Infact we are taught by Islam to respect all other religion. By respecting each other, we can live in harmony. Let us all agree with each other atleast by the similarities our religions hold.

By the way Naren, do you know there are many similarities between Islam and Hinduism ? Do you know them.

Stay active.

Hi Seekshidayath!

I haven't posted anything disagreeable and I don't think we will lock horns on frivolous things.:)

I know that Islam teaches us peace. Islam itself means peace. All the religions in the world teach us love and peace and all religions respect all other religions. All religions have beautiful teachings. Where the problem lies, according to me, is comparison. Belief is a belief. We cannot compare beliefs. There is nothing as a "better" belief.

So there may be similarities and there may be differences. I don't care much about them. I have a tendency towards Hinduism, so I am a Hindu. That's all. That's what I feel.

I am active, but it is taking a lot of time for moderation.

Let's make India better.

Good evening!

I discussed about similarities between religions , because i strongly believe as preached by Qur'an that when we come to common terms between us instead of stressing over differences, that shall work out for peaceful existence.

You must be knowing Naren that, 'Hinduism" is n't used in any of hindu scriptures. It was first used by britishers . What do you say ? {Its only a discussion} No intention to break up bond of peace with you Smile.

Have a nice day

Hello Naren,

This is an extract from a lecture. I do firmly hold these views. Also inserted mine, in the midst.

It is not for human beings to claim being right or wrong as it leads to disturbances and breach of peace. Therefore these matters should be left for God to decide. The differences of laws and ways of life should not become the cause of disharmony and enmity.  The test is to live in peace and harmony with each other, which is the will of God.  Furthermore, God directs us to learn to live with these differences and compete with each other only in our acts of goodness, as that is what will bring everyone together. The Qurn mandates a peaceful co-existence.  It is the best way to resolve inter-religious and inter-cultural conflicts and to promote acceptance of the religious and cultural other with dignity and grace.

The only immediately available answer is intolerance and the lack of respect for diversity. Intolerance causes economic injustice, political double standards and social oppression. Intolerance is on the increase and it is killing human beings on a massive scale, as we all witness. Intolerance raises many moral as well as political and economic questions. Intolerance is a major threat to peace and security. Hope you totally agree with me here.

Here we need interfaith relations and dialogues. Of course we have core differences in our religions but we must try to understand each other. As we learn about our own faith traditions and communities, we should also learn about others. By understanding we learn the areas of commonalities as well as differences. So did i say, we will go thru the similarities between our religions. We can learn the nature of differences and the extent of differences. We must look what kind dialogues could be of value, and what issues are most in need of respectful dialogue in these times.

What concerns for the well-being of others should drive our efforts to reach common ground for action. This is what Qur'an teaches us. Each group must encourage and facilitate shared responsibility to create a more sensitive and welcoming environment for our diverse groups.

It is, therefore, necessary to promote the spirit of dialogue among people of different faiths. The first requirement of the spirit of dialogue is to know the other in faith. No dialogue can ever be successful if this spirit does not prevail.

Islam teaches Muslims to live in peace with others, including religious, linguistic, racial or national other. The Quranic verses like 5:48 or 4:35 or 22:40 or 30:22 or 6:109 are very important in this respect. In fact the verse 5:48 throws challenge to us to live with plurality of faith and laws and the Quranic emphasis is on excelling the other in good deeds and not competing with the other in religious rituals or ways of worshipping. Thus Quran accepts diversity as given, as the Will of Allah rather than rejecting it.

Thus unity and sense of inclusiveness can be promoted only by promoting the spirit of dialogue and spirit of tolerance. This would head India towards peace. This is what i think can forward India towards peace. What do you say ?

Hi again Seekshidayath after a long time!

The post has been beautifully written. Thank you.

Every religion under the sun mandates peaceful co-existence. We are lucky to be born into a tolerant civilization in a secular country. Indians on the whole have been largely tolerant despite being culturally, linguistically and religiously diverse.

I don't see intolerance or religious conflicts to be the problem of our backwardness as it does not exist on a large scale. There have been incidents but not widespread. Religion is quite secondary in the context of the development of India as it is secular. Just look at the government... our Prime Minister is a Sikh, our President is a Hindu, our Vice-President is a Muslim, our Defence Minister is a Christian, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu (M. Karunanidhi) is an Atheist, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (Y.S. Rajashekhar Reddy) was a Christian and the list goes on...

So I feel religion, caste etc. aren't a hindrance for our growth in India (e.g. Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh is a Dalit).

Finally I see India to be peaceful even when it is not compared to its neighbours. I see the major impediment to our progress is corruption. And religion has nothing to do with our development. That is what I feel.

I don't have a plan or strategy to abolish it, but I am looking for a case to end all cases.Smile

Have a nice time.

Happy Diwali!

Hello Naren,

We can realise the beauty of the post, when we practice it . What do you say !

When i viewed India, thru your explanation, its indeed beautiful. There's a saying in urdu, which means, a cat closes its eyes, when faces dangers. By closing eyes, it feels that the danger is gone. So is your explanation.

Extremists be it of any religion, are very serious threat to our nation. What shud i do of that development, when we do not live in peace. I feel, instead of looking at the factors that "DEVELOP" India, let's look at the measures that may bring peace. Let's try to pluck these 'weeds" of our society.

As said, India is beautifully potrayed by you. All these ministers, of different religions, holding different posts. We also have an extremist in India, whose hands are stained with blood of innocent lives! He has been elected and re-elected. This is the condition of our country. We all know very well, that he is inhuman {i used the word inhuman, b.cos he does n't feel guilty of what he has done}. When am to introduce him, in the list of your introduction, i shall not state him as CM who's hindu, i would state that "he is anti-muslim, Chief Minister".

Most of the top leaders, are involved in scams. They ate our money ! Few leaders make anti-islamic speeches in pulic. Who dares to arrest Bal Thackeray ! Mumbai, will be burnt if he is touched ! And this Praveen Thogadia ! he is very much bothered in all his speeches filled with hatred for muslims even today !

You want a common Indian to let go all these things ! I feel its duty of every youngster of India to stand up, make aware of these bugs to the society, so that they don't get carried away. Else, many Varun Gandhis are made in the society.

Yes, i do agree that corruption is the biggest problem of our society. Not a file moves with out corruption. In Islam its a sin. Prophet Muhammad {pbuh} said that its forbidden to either take or corrupt people. Its a cancer of our society. Whta do you think that shall remove it !

In my opinion, its only fear of God that shall abstain us. Islam speaks alot about it. {Even mots of the muslims in India, are actively involved in corruption}. There's need to revive fear of God in their hearts. That shall automatically stop them. Many times my father confronts the situation that he has to give money to get the work over. {He does social works alot, like helping the old to get their pensions, widows and the needy}. And govt offices don't move a file without bribery. Here i clash my father's view that why shud we give them bribe, while its our right! --- ANyways thats going long. But final word is Naren, its important that people learn what their religion holds. Understand its essence and practice it. Fear of God shall help in harmonising a society.

Greetings to Seekshidayath!

Why to directly attack all of Hindus for what a few people have done. That urdu saying does not definitely hold good in our context. If those communal people have any hold over the communities, then they would be ruling the country. Bal Thakaray lost the elections, Varun Gandhi lost, Praveen Tagodia, never heard of him. No one even heeds to what Varun Gandhi or even Rahul Gandhi says. Everyone follows his own heart. The perpetrator is a human being. We give him a religion for our own gratification.

We have freedom of speech in India. So those people say what they want. Weren't you making fun of Hindus in one of your posts? That is freedom of speech.

Religion is a very complex thing. Few understand it. And those who understand it, just waste time thinking of others' religion and comparing them to their own. Thus arriving at the differences, from which confusion ensues. The confusion is because a belief cannot be proven until we believe it ourselves. So we try to point out the negatives in others' religions for our gratification and end up abusing others. So I don't take religion seriously though I practice it.

Have a nice time.

Indian government respects religious freedom, but some states found wanting: US

Tue, Oct 27 08:52 AM

Washington, Oct 27 (IANS) A US government report gave top rating to the Indian government for doing its best to protect religious freedom, but criticised some state and local governments for imposing limits on this freedom.

'The National Government generally respected religious freedom in practice; however, some state and local governments imposed limits on this freedom,' the State Department said Monday in its Congressionally mandated annual report on International Religions Freedom.

'Although the vast majority of citizens of every religious group lived in peaceful coexistence, some organized societal attacks against minority religious groups occurred,' the report said alleging 'the state police and enforcement agencies often did not act swiftly to effectively counter such attacks.'

Releasing the report covering 198 countries, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hoped it 'will encourage existing religious freedom movements around the world and promote dialogue among governments and within societies.'

The report said the phrase 'generally respected' signifies that the government attempted to protect religious freedom in the fullest sense and was 'thus the highest level of respect for religious freedom assigned' by it.

Religious extremists, it noted, committed numerous terrorist attacks throughout India, including the November 2008 attacks in Mumbai that targeted luxury hotels, a crowded railway station, a Jewish centre, a hospital, and restaurants.

The report noted 40 persons died and 134 were injured as 'violence erupted in August 2008 in Orissa after individuals affiliated with left-wing Maoist extremists killed a Hindu religious leader in Kandhamal, one of the country's poorest districts.'

'Although most victims were Christians, the underlying causes that led to the violence have complex ethnic, economic, religious, and political roots related to land ownership and government-reserved employment and educational benefits,' it said.

Numerous cases were in the courts, including cases in connection with the 2002 Gujarat violence, the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, and more recent attacks against Christians, the State Department report noted.

But 'some extremists continued to view ineffective investigation and prosecution of attacks as a signal that they could commit such violence with impunity.'

'In general, India's democratic system, open society, independent legal institutions, vibrant civil society, and press all provided mechanisms to address violations of religious freedom when they did occur,' the report said.

Listing 'improvements and positive developments' in the year ended June 30, the report said, 'In India, 'Government officials responded to a number of new and previous violent events, helping to prevent communal violence and providing relief and rehabilitation packages for victims and their families.'

'Efforts at ecumenical understanding brought religious leaders together to defuse religious tensions,' it said noting, 'in the aftermath of the November 2008 Mumbai terrorist strikes, religious leaders of all communities condemned the attacks and issued statements to maintain communal harmony.'

Hello Naren,

Hope you are doing well.

Did i attack all the hindus ? As said, extremists of any religion are threat to our country. I named few extremists to you. Secondly, i tried to show you that how these extremists are encouraged in our country that they are elected and re-elected.

That urdu saying does not definitely hold good in our context.

Ok. Actually, i thought to show you that all that you showed, is just what we say in - {dil behlanay wali bathein hai} Just to comfort ourselves. And the other face is different, as showed you in that post

If those communal people have any hold over the communities, then they would be ruling the country.

Ruling ! Is Narendra Modi not ruling Gujrat ! Did  BJP govt not rule for years, soon after demolishing Babri Masjid ?  How many communal riots not occur in our country after the Babri Masjid was demolished ? Immediately in the next elections, did BJP not come into power ?

Bal Thakaray lost the elections,

Bal Thakeray, did not contest at all. I guess you are talking of his party - Shiv Sena. Yes, it did loose, and we all know the reason very well. It was because of MNS, a party set up by the nephew of Bal Thackeray { both are fishes of same pond}. And MNS, did gain many seats. Its the same. It does n't matter for me, if shiv sena wins or MNS. Will you as an Indian encourage him, to beat away biharis or other Indians from Maharastra since they are non-Marati people, though Indian ? Certainly, a true Indian says, "NO", to it. But how cud this person win so many seats ? Does it not show that people are with him. He cud win hearts of those people ? To great extent is he not responsible to sow such seed of hatred their heats ? Being an Indian, we would again seggregate ourselves, as Marati, non-marati, bihari --- what not !

Varun Gandhi lost,

Varun Gandhi won by 2.81 lakhs of votes, my friend. If i share his speech here, that would cause tremor, esp pakistani people as they are urdu speakers. Anyways, his win, does it not show, how many people support him , his ideas, his thoughts, his hatred towards muslims ?

Praveen Tagodia, never heard of him.

You are joking , is n't it ? Smile

Just google search. He is very well in media for his hatred towards muslims. You may get to listen his speeches over youtube.

No one even heeds to what Varun Gandhi or even Rahul Gandhi says. Everyone follows his own heart. The perpetrator is a human being. We give him a religion for our own gratification.

Hearts are changed by words and speeches, my friend.

We have freedom of speech in India.

Just because Azharuddin, {Cricket captain of India then, who was charged of fixing matches etc} said, that since he was a muslim, he is targeted. He used his freedom of speech. Then why did Bal Thackeray demand an apology from him ? When he vomits all his hatred towards muslims, its permissible --- when you do it its lawful --- Anyways, Naren i don't deny that we don't have freedom of speech. I am proud of it to say that its freedom of speech in India, thats letting me to express.

Weren't you making fun of Hindus in one of your posts? That is freedom of speech.

Can u kindly highlight those lines where am making fun of hindus. If i find so, i shall immediately apologise. Its wrong in Islam to laugh or make fun of else's religion.  I attacked over extremists of our country, not anyone's religion. I do hold hindus as well , in my lists of friends.

Those were your views, Naren.  I feel its religion that bridges the gap between us. Study of similarities between religions shall help us a lot. My friendship bond with my classmates, has strengthened thru this study.  We don;t get till the point that we abuse each other. Anyways.

i don't have any personal grudge against you. So hope you won't mind for the differences on our opinions.

Have a nice time.

Batla and post-Batla incidents in Azamgarh were planned years ago: rights activists

By Mumtaz Alam Falahi, TwoCircles.net,

On the first anniversary of Batla House encounter, two young Azamgarh human rights activists -- from two different religions recall the post-encounter incidents in their district. Neither Batla nor post-Batla incidents were accidents, rather the results of well-thought out politically motivated conspiracy hatched out years ago, Rajiv Yadav and Tariq Shafique tell Mumtaz Alam Falahi of TwoCircles.net

Was post-Batla incidents in Azamgarh were planned or just accident?

Rajiv Yadav: It was not an accident. It was a well-thought out politically motivated conspiracy hatched and execution of which began a year ago coincidentally a year before the Lok Sabha elections. The post-Batla situation in Azamgarh and eastern UP was used by certain political parties. And this was not new. Gujarat and UP itself have witnessed such political conspiracies. Several encounters were staged in Gujarat just before elections. As all encounters were said to be carried out to save Narendra Modi, he got the dividends in elections. Same has happened in UP where many encounters took place in the name of protecting Mayawati. What happened in Azamgarh post-Batla was planned and being executed gradually for the last 10 years.

Why conspiracy against Azamgarh Muslims?

Rajiv Yadav: In the last one decade or so, the standard of living of Muslims in Azamgarh rose up, and big houses and madrasas came up. This was because of the affluence brought to the district by local Muslims living abroad mainly in the Middle East (in thousands). The local Muslims affluence was projected as the direct fruit of terrorism in which they are alleged to be involved. Then Batla House was executed and scores of people, mostly young and educated, were picked or arrested from Azamgarh and outside. Azamgarh was presented as a hub of terrorism.

Political parties and media wanted to show that Muslims in India are not merely assisting terror outfits working from foreign land but also hatching and executing terror attacks in the country.

Post-Batla, how many people were arrested from Azamgarh in connection with terror cases?

Tariq Shafique: Of 18 persons only one was arrested from Azamgarh. All the 17 people have been arrested from some other districts at railway station, outside railway station or sometimes in trains. Only Hakeem Tariq was arrested in 2007 in Azamgarh.

According to charge sheets, 11 people are missing. There is no information about them.

Are people still living in fear in Azamgarh or the situation has changed?

Tariq Shafique: There is very slight improvement in the situation in the district. People still fear while venturing out. They fear that they may be picked. I fear whether I would reach home.

Every year more than 10,000 students would go out of town to get higher education. Bu this year only about 2000-2500 could go out. They fear they may be picked. Another problem they are facing is that they are not getting accommodation as they belong to Azamgarh. They are facing the situation in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and other cities.

About two dozen youths from Azamgarh are in jails facing multiple terror charges with charge sheets in several thousand pages and witnesses in hundreds. As human rights activist are you sure the cases will reach natural conclusion?

Tariq Shafique: We have no option but to hope for justice. What is disturbing is that these accused are being tortured and denied of basic human and civil rights even in jails. On the day of Eid this year, the Muslim inmates were beaten up in Jaipur jail and not allowed to offer Eid prayers. Similar atrocities were meted out to the prisoners in Sabarmati Jail in March 2009. They were also not allowed to offer Eid prayers. The jail authorities have also banned letters in Urdu.

How do you see the experiment of Ulema Council which got about 2.5 lakh votes in the last Lok Sabha elections?

Rajiv Yadav: Ulema Council was created by some other political party. While Peace Party was created in Trai region of UP, Ulema Council in Azamgarh region. And this is clear from the rise of Congress in these areas after several decades that these two are politically sponsored parties.

Tariq Shafique: Muslims had joined and supported Ulema Council not on political issues but actually they joined the movement on the Batla House encounter. Now the Ulema Council has wrapped up the movement and thus Muslims have gone away from it. Ulema Council got everything money, fame, honor -- from Batla House but Batla House victims got nothing from the Council. Today Batla House has become a secondary issue for the Council, and the murder of their man by Ramakant Yadav supporters has become the top issue.

When they started the movement a lot of people including rights activists had joined them but as soon as they went political, people went away from them. And media also started to ignore the Batla issue.

Hello Seeksshidayath!

Forgive my general awareness. We will just embarrass our own people if we continue talking in this fashion. We are all victims of terrorism. And terrorism has no religion.

So what are you planning to do about those conspirators and perpetrators? Just trying to bring up awareness amongst we muslims of India, to stay awake and alert against the forces working against us will not do as all the perpetrators are allied to some religion either Hinduism or Islam or some other religion.

I feel it to be better to think about solutions rather than just talking about the problems faced by us.

And sorry I can't read long posts as it is a waste of time. If we know that the problem exists, then why can't we concentrate on the solution which is the need of the hour.

Have a nice time always.

Hah ! What shud i write ! You are so good and soft in your speech that i don't want to argue/debate.

Anyways, what do you think, shall we discuss, Librehan report {I hope am spelling correct} or regarding Vande Mataram fatwa -- nasty politicians of our country !!

You see its 17 years it took to just present a report. Pramod Mahajan is already dead. Vajpayee, we know his health conditions -- I wish i cud see all men behind these riots and demolition,be punshed. Even Narasimha Rao is dead. Ahh ! i hate both congress and Bjp equally. It was a conspiracy. By the way did you see our parliament today ! So called elected leaders, representatives !!

Hello Seekshidayath!

Id Mubarak!

Nice to see your reply.  But why do you want to argue/debate?  Again you are talking about the problems rather than the solutions.  The differences among Hindus and Muslims are very old. They had been at war for centuries. Even Hindus suffered and their temples raged under the Muslim rule, didn't they?  Muslims have been harsh towards Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis under their rule.  Yet Hindus wanted their country to be secular while others preferred otherwise.  And you can see how those countries are suffering while we are comparatively more peaceful though we are diverse culturally and religiously.

SO WHY TO THINK OF THE PAST WHEN WE CAN CREATE A BEAUTIFUL FUTURE TOGETHER?  Why to talk about the politics those people in white, saffron or green create?  It is upto us people to have a positive view about the future.

Have a nice time.

Hello Naren,

Thanx for your wishes of Eid.

You said:
hey had been at war for centuries. Even Hindus suffered and their temples raged under the Muslim rule, didn't they? Muslims have been harsh towards Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis under their rule. Yet Hindus wanted their country to be secular while others preferred otherwise.

You may not agree but its a fact Naren that muslims did not destroy temples. We get to read of Auragazeb, and other muslims. Its all false.

You said :
Muslims have been harsh towards Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis under their rule

Kindly prove it to me by citing examples wherein muslims of India have been harsh to those religions you mentioned.

You said :

SO WHY TO THINK OF THE PAST WHEN WE CAN CREATE A BEAUTIFUL FUTURE TOGETHER? Why to talk about the politics those people in white, saffron or green create? It is upto us people to have a positive view about the future.

I dream of better future of muslims in India, when we get our past justified. How can you say that Naren ? Shall we not seek for justice ? Those ancient times you cited above, may or may not be true. But right now, even if i agree with you, let me tell you, we were not united geographically as INDIA. We did not have any constitution. We had no courts of justice. Now, when we do have all these, shall we not claim for justice !

The past am discussing is not yet solved. Its continuing in the present times as well. Shud we quietly bear. Its not matter of one or two incidents. Its recurring to us.

Now, to the question, what do we get out of discussions. Let me take up one example. From this page itself. EARLIER, did we all not know that it were terrorists at Batla house and police encountered them. There was lots of discussions then India, and we muslims were again under doubtful eyes, viewed as TERRORISTS. And the recent sharing of the article, of Batla house, above, clearly lets us know about conscpiracy against us.

Reg, discussion of other injustices such as Babri Masjid - apart from demolition of masjid, there were riots all over India. Shud these people not be condemned. Am using my right of speech. Am not provocating readers, but its important that we be aware and alert. If possible fight for justice thru the best we possess. Am nothing, but the best i can do is, share such articles amongst people.

Next time, when Indian readers, watch encounters of muslims, they may not be certain if they were real terrorists, They get reminded of Batla house conspiracy. Is n't it ?

Yes, i do love my country. You know naren, every muslim is a muslim first and then a nationalist. It does n't mean i don't love my country. So am looking for justice. I did not dig up those injustices done in the past and are over , but am addressing the problems muslims are facing today.

Did you read the fresh news of muslims in Gujrat ? ANd you want be to stay quiet ! Am sorry for being frustrating, i just want that Modi to be hanged ! then would i agree that there's justice done with muslims in India. Insha Allah, shall share in my next post.

Expressindia Story

To get job in Surat, Muslim took Hindu name; revealed when he was killed

Kamaal Saiyed
Posted: Dec 29, 2009 at 0522 hrs IST

Surat All Mehboob Pathan (50) of Valak village on Surats outskirts wanted was a job in the city. Having a Muslim name, he felt, came in the way. So, to get himself a job in Surats diamond units, he passed himself off as Jayenti Bhatti, and managed to find work in two separate units in the Kapodara area.

Early this week, his cover was blown, after he was brutally killed over a monetary dispute. As the distraught family stepped forward to admit that Jayenti Bhatti was indeed Mehboob Pathan, they worried that having been cremated as a Hindu, the practising Muslims soul may not find peace.

In the ledgers of Surats diamond units, there are many leading a double life like Pathan. His son Mushtaq is registered as Mukesh and daughter Samina as Sharmila, and both are afraid of losing their jobs if the fact was known.

Diamond industry sources and workers say many Muslims assume Hindu names to find work in the citys lucrative diamond business.

One of them, Allarakha Khan, admits to having passed himself off as a Hindu like many others from his village. We would not get a job if we are known to be Muslims. We have been doing this for a long time, and we take great care not to reveal our real names or addresses at work, he told The Indian Express.

Rohit Mehta, president of the Surat Diamond Association, however, denied knowledge of Muslims passing themselves off as Hindus for jobs. We will inquire into this, he said.

Pathans story came to be known after his body was found in a farm at Antroli last Monday, with the head smashed in. The police registered a case and kept the unclaimed body in the Palsana Primary Health Centre mortuary till Thursday. Then they arranged to give Pathan alias Bhatti a Hindu funeral, with all the rites.

His family, who had been looking for Pathan, had filed a missing complaint. Then, seeing news stories in local newspapers about an unclaimed body, Mehboobs brother-in-law Iqbal Pathan decided to check. By that time, Pathan had been cremated, but the brother-in-law identified him from a photo of the body.

The family says Pathan was a pious Muslim and the change of name was just so that he and his children could find and keep a job. We are too poor to do anything, but how could the police dispose of his body the Hindu way? asks son Mushtaq. A genital examination would have shown he was a Muslim.

Sub-Inspector of Kadodara police V R Malhotra said they had kept the body in the mortuary hoping someone would turn up. We disposed it of according to Hindu rites not knowing he was a Muslim. The family turned up too late and we are now helpless.

Kapodara police inspector S J Tirmizi, who is probing the murder, confirmed that Pathan had passed himself off as Bhatti for work. Manoj Rokad, who is the manager of the Varachha unit in which Pathans daughter Samina works as a diamond polisher, has reportedly confessed to the murder.

According to the police, Rokad had become a family friend of the Pathans and knew their real identities. Two years ago, Pathan had reportedly loaned Rokad Rs 60,000 for an emergency, which he never returned. Pathan used to call Rokad repeatedly asking him to return the same, and the latter reportedly asked Pathan to meet him on December 20. They went to Antroli village, where Rokad allegedly killed Pathan with the help of two other diamond polishers, who have been identified as Chhanya Rathod and Sanjay.

While Rokad has been held, and has reportedly admitted that they beat Pathan to death, Rathod and Sanjay are on the run.

A VERY SAD DAY FOR SECULAR INDIA

Todays issue of The Indian Express on its front page carries a story that exposes the depth of ingrained communal feelings against Muslims in India. It narrates how in Modis Gujarat, Muslims are changing their Muslim names to Hindu names, just to get jobs, which would have been denied to them, if their Muslim identity is known.

I will blame Congress, Nehru, Indira, Rajiv and now Sonia for this state of affair.

It is they who had indulged in double game and systematically reduced 150- 200 million Indian Muslims to such a level of desperation that their very survival as Muslims at grass root level has been so thoroughly become impossible. The other day, Indian Express had carried an interview with World Human Right Watch. A Pew report mentioned in The Times of India earlier gave India the dubious distinction of being wrecked by communal strife of the same intensity that has wrecked Iraq.

It is time, world at large takes note of how oppressed Muslims are in the so-called secular and democratic India. If Muslims are forced to change their religion by undergoing such hardships for their very survival, this is cause for serious alarm.
Muslims should thank The Indian Express and Times of India, for swimming against the tide and forcing themselves against odds to bring such unpalatable ghastly truth into the public arena.

Congress must pass very stringent hate crime laws to punish those who have enjoyed absolute freedom and unaccountability to carry out their nefarious hate campaigns. If Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is so reputedly enomoured of his US connections, let him be bold and courageous enough to press for the same criminal laws that USupholds to fight religious hatred and criminal acts within their communities.

Hello Seekshidayath!

That's great that you are a Muslim first.  Then what are you doing to the downtrodden muslims?  Will it just help if you post all this stuff on the internet?  What do you think is the root cause of all this slavery kind of thing which you are trying to project with your post?  How do you think the awareness which you want to create among the people help in the betterment of our beloved India?

Have a nice time.

Mr. Naren.
What exactly is your intention in agitating on raising such issues. In many ways information itself is an objective. While Indian hindu fascist have been massacring Muslims for more than sixty years, your only concern seems to be goodwill of India. Mind you goodwill should be built on truth not on concoctations. Why do you think that Indian muslims should keep quite and allow to continue this genocide and humiliation in the name of loving the nation. Our attachment to our land is because of our inherent nature. It does not however mean that we continue to suffer in the hand of those people who unfortunately are born on the same land.
For three generation we are suffering from persistant humuliation in the hand of hindu fascists, and the govt. who is supposed to be custodian of constituition always gave them free hand to kill Muslims. Before agitating, I suggest you to read histrory of riot in post independent India. It will also be worthwhile to read something about pre-independent India riots. What we can say about this riot is that calling it riot is just insult to the word riot. It has always been one sided massacre by the acknowledgement of govt.

Do not complain, fix it if you can or else leave us to expose the real face of India Hindus.

Hello Seekshidayath after a long time!

How are you?
I was out of station for quite some time.

I still do not understand what perception you want to build among readers.  Why can't you show the progress the Muslims are making in different fields?

There are bad people in every community.  Human nature is itself biased and human beings are egotists.  Then why to attack a particular community?

Where we go wrong is we see it as a Hindu vs a Muslim.  But we have to see it as a human vs a human.

Let us go beyond our identities and make a better country.

Hello Abu Zaid!

There are fascists in Hindus.  But not all Hindus are fascists.  If all Hindus were fascists, then there would have been only Hindus in India.  There are more than 900 million Hindus in India.  I feel it is a quite large number when compared to 140 million Muslims.  Do you think 60 years are required to overwhelm such a small number?

Brother, Hindu-Muslim conflict predates even our independence.

I feel it is in the human nature through out the world.  Before the Muslims came to India, Hindus fought among themselves.  After the advent of Muslims, Hindus had a common enemy and fought with them.  Then came the British.  And Hindus and Muslims together fought with the British.

Now I feel we need another common enemy so that we are together again.  We are already having common enemies my friend.  They are poverty and corruption.  Why can't we fight them together for our common good?

And how can you expect the Hindus to take your side when you people have such opinions and post posts which seem more of an attack than "information"?

I hope you will keep your prejudices aside and work for a better world to live in.

Indian Muslim
By Mumtaz Alam Falahi,TwoCircles.net

New Delhi: Even hardcore terrorists and diehard Hindutva extremists could have a heart which can melt, forcing them to admit their sins. This became evident in the case of Swami Aseemanand. What moved old RSS man Aseemanand to confess his role in terror blasts in the country is not investigators hard questioning but the good moral conduct of a Muslim youth 21-year-old Abdul Kaleem.

During his brief stay in Chanchalguda district jail in Hyderabad after his arrest in November 2010 in connection with Mecca Masjid blast case, Aseemanand encountered an inexplicable human experience. He was converted at heart by a young co-inmate Kaleem. Kaleem helped Aseemanand lot in the jail he would help the old man by bringing him food, water etc. The terror conspirator was very much moved by the Muslim youths conduct. But the dramatic turn came when Aseemanand one day asked Kaleem to tell him about him and his family. One of hundreds of innocent Muslim youths languishing in jail in terror cases, Kaleem told Aseemanand he had served one and half years in the same jail in the Mecca Masjid blast case. He told him he was innocent. At that moment, the conscience in Aseemand woke up and he decided to confess the sins he has done and for which innocent Muslims youths are being punished.

Sir, when I was lodged in Chanchalguda district jail in Hyderabad, one of my co-inmates was Kaleem. During my interaction with Kaleem I learnt that he was previously arrested in the Mecca Masjid bomb blast case and he had to spend about one and half years in prison. During my stay in jail, Kaleem helped me a lot and used to serve me by bringing water, food, etc for me. I was very moved by Kaleems good conduct and my conscience asked me to do prayschit (penance) by making a confessional statement so that real culprits can be punished and no innocent has to suffer, Aseemanand said in his confessional statement before the magistrate in New Delhi on 18th December 2010.

In his 42-page confessional statement, Aseemanand confessed he and other Hindutva extremists were behind various terror blasts in the country including Malegaon, Ajmer, Mecca Masjid and Samjhauta Express. He has also named RSS leader Indresh Kumar as main conspirator. Aseemanand was arrested on 19 November 2010 by the CBI from a hideout in Haridwar. He had been a fugitive for over two years since Sadhvi Pragyas arrest in October 2008.

According to Tehelka weekly which first disclosed Aseemanands confession, Kaleem, a cell phone seller, was arrested and tortured in 2007 for the blast at Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad. He spent a year-and-half in jail before being acquitted.

I'm getting the feeling Naren is feeling somewhat frustrated, as i am, that seekshidayath has persistently failed to answer Narens main question in that what does seekshidayath propose to do about helping the downtrodden muslims in India?

Naren has a fair point in when he says by constantly bringing up the past and focusing on the past does nothing to help to bring about reconciliation and understanding and mutual respect between Muslims and Hindus in the present day and without this what hope is there for the future.
Let me give you an example, if a husband and wife have a falling out, and the wife constantly brings up past errors or mistakes of the husband, i fear sooner or later the marraiage will break up. Is it not better, to leave the past behind and look forwards to the future.

Yes Seekshidayath, we have to remember the past and hopefully learn from it but to focus solely on it is going to do nothing but wind up those hindus who are sympathetic to the muslims plight and further errode the sympathy that hindus have for muslims.

Also we have to remember for every instance where a hindu has hurt or caused inhury to a muslim i'm sure we can find examples of where a muslim has hurt a hindu or in muslim majority countries where the muslims have discriminated against the minority religion or persons.

As Naren quite rightly said "There are fascists in Hindus.  But not all Hindus are fascists." I'm sure you, I and every muslim would rightly say that there are terrorist muslims but not every muslim is a terrorist. And the same can be said about every race, religion and nation, each and every one has a minority which is against peaceful co-existence with their fellow man and womankind.

So lets move forwards and find aways to bring us together and find solutions to todays problems instead of bringing up the past constantly and causing friction, animosity and ill-feeling where there should be peace and harmony.

As Salamu Alaikum

JazakAllah for your comments. I do respect the viewpoint of naren. Brother, i do not wish to potray hindus or any particular group of people as wrong. Kindly note that am not digging the past. I don't understand why am stated wrong when am trying to wipe wrong labels over the muslims in India.

It's not the past am dealing with. It's happening in India that after every blast innocent muslims are arrested and tortured. What's wrong when am sharing the news and exposing that it's not muslims who are behind blasts. I don't wish to spread animosity.Yes, i do hold lots of hatred towards the Gujrat minister, who caused mass killing of muslims. What's wrong if i raise my voice for justice---

As Salamu Alaikum Sister

You make a valid point in that muslims are immediately the first persons people point their finger of blame at in the aftermath or an explosion, but this is not just the case in India, this is happening all over the world. Everytime i hear or see a report about an explosion or a killing, my first reaction is "Oh Allah, please let it not be in your name."

Although I am from England, my parents are from Gujrat and we still have a house there and my parents split their time between England and India.

We need to find a solution to this, instead of jumping like lunatics and monkeys with our bottoms on fire every time someone points the finger of blame at muslims or someone draws a picture and says it is the Prophet (pbuh), lets just take a moment to ask ourselves what have we done personally to show the non-muslim world the true Islam, the true message of peace and respect for others?  Cos the message of peace and respect is not the one being conveyed when they see images in the media of muslims hiding their faces and calling for death for all non-muslims.

I understand you are trying to raise awareness that not every bomb blast has the fingerprint of muslims on it. But maybe there is a better way of showing this? Instead of recating in the aftermath of the bomb blast what if we spread the truth of Islam before the even occurs and educate non-muslims as to what it truly means to be a muslim, that way at least when the next time a bomb does go off, or someone claims to have committed a suicide bombing in the name of Islam, the person/s you have spread the message to will hopefully say, "Hold on a second, this suicide bomber is not a real muslim, for real muslims would not commit suicide, as suicide has been forbidden by Allah."

Slowly one by one we can hopefully educate the non-Islam aware public of what a real muslim would and would not do.

Wa'laikum Salaam wa rahamtullah,

You hold good opinions brother. Infact am of the same view.

Would like to clear that am right now thru this thread not expressing my hatred or fury [except to that of Gujrat's CM},towards any religion

By sharing these articles, am merely trying to counter the media and those who got programmed by the media that these innocents are terrorists. Why am i wrong when i say that it's not these terrorists but them {with proof] who blamed us.

You are from Indian origin. If you do not understand hindi, kindly seek help of your parents while watching this video.

Dear Sister

Please forgive me if in my messages i ever gave the impression that you were expressing any hatred or fury against any religion.  That was not my intention. I was merely picking up on the point which Naren made that some people might take exception to all the stories you were detailing and might see it as an attack on hindus.

You are right the world should be made aware of the truth, that there is a hidden agenda of some hindus in that they wish to cause destruction to the muslims.

My hindi is not as good as it should be, but i will give the video a watch when i get home tonight, kinda difficult trying to watch it at work :-)

Justice Katju interacts with mediapersons

This is the text of the speech delivered by Honble Mr. Justice M. Katju, Chairman, Press Council of India, to the mediapersons on their responsibility at a get together at his home in New Delhi on October 10, 2011.

Friends,

I wish to thank you all for accepting my invitation for this get together and for coming here.

As you know, I have only recently become the Chairman of the Press Council of India. It is a new job for me as I was earlier in the legal world for 40 years, 20 years as a lawyer and 20 years as a Judge.

Now, that I have come into your world I need your guidance, advice and suggestions so that I may be able to perform my duties properly.

I have arranged this get together of media people because I think that the time has now come in this country when some introspection is required by the media. Many people, not only those in authority but even ordinary people, have started saying that the media has become irresponsible, wayward and needs to be reined in.

Only a couple of days back I read in the newspapers that the Union Government has issued some regulations regarding licences for news channels, about which there was a lot of reaction.

Under the Constitution of India freedom of the media is part of the freedom of speech guaranteed by Article 19 (1) (a) of the Constitution. However, no freedom can be absolute, and reasonable restrictions can be placed on them. One of the basic tasks of the media is to provide truthful and objective information to the people which will enable them to form rational opinions, which is a sine qua non in a democracy. But is the Indian media performing this role properly?

I may only mention certain defects in the functioning of the Indian media today:

(i)The media often twist facts. In this connection, I would like to give an example.

I sat for several months with Honble Mrs. Justice Gyan Sudha Misra in a Bench of the Supreme Court. One day, a leading English newspaper of the country published on its front page a photograph of Honble Justice Misra with the caption Supreme Court Judge says that her daughters are liabilities.

This was a totally distorted and fallacious news and that too published in the front page of a leading English newspaper.

The correct facts were that Supreme Court Judges have to disclose their assets and liabilities. Against the liabilities column Justice Misra wrote two daughters to be married. Strictly speaking it was not necessary to mention this because liabilities means legal liabilities e.g. housing loan, car loan, etc. However, the intention of Justice Misra was obviously to say that she had to spend a lot of money in her daughters future marriage. She has three daughters (no son) only one of whom has been married and two are yet to be married. Justice Misra never said nor intended to say that her daughters were liabilities, and the news published was totally false and defamatory with the obvious intention of creating a sensation.

This publication was of tremendous embarrassment and grief not only to Justice Misra but also to members of her family. Did the publisher of this news items ever think how much pain and embarrassment it would cause to Justice Misra and her family? Obviously not. All that the publisher of that news sought was to create a sensation by twisting the correct facts.

Even if Justice Misra had made a mistake in writing two daughters to be married against the column of liabilities, should the media have cashed in on this mistake and totally distorted it without realizing how much pain it was causing to some people? I ask the media people assembled here today to themselves introspect and seek the answer.

(ii)The issue of paid news has become prominent of late. In the 2009 elections, it was a scandal. How to stop this vicious practice needs to be discussed among us. Incidentally, in compliance with the order of the Chief Information Commissioner dated 19.9.2011, we have placed the 71-page report of the Committee consisting of Shri Paranjoy Guha Thakurta and Mr. Sreenivas Reddy on our website http://www.presscouncil.nic.in/ - www.presscouncil.nic.in with the disclaimer that the Press Council had rejected this report in its meeting held on 26.4.2010. .

(iii)The media often portrays non issues as real issues while the real issues are sidelined. The real issues in the country are economic, that is the terrible economic conditions in which 80% of our people are living, the poverty, unemployment, lack of housing and medical care etc. Instead of addressing these real issues, the media often tries to divert the attention of the people to non-issues, such as that the wife of a film actor has become pregnant, whether that lady will give birth to a single child or to twins etc. Are these the real issues facing the nation?

In the Lakme India Fashion Week event, there were 512 accredited journalists covering the event in which models were displaying cotton garments, while the men and women who grew that cotton were killing themselves at a distance of an hours flight from Nagpur in the Vidharbha region. Nobody told that story except one or two journalists, locally.

Is this a responsible way for the Indian media to function? Should the media turn a Nelsons eye to the harsh economic realities facing over 75 per cent of our people, and concentrate on some Potemkin villages where all is glamour and show biz? Are not the Indian media behaving much like Queen Marie Antoinette, who said that if the people had no bread, they should eat cake.

No doubt, sometimes the media mentions farmers suicides, the rise in the price of essential commodities, and so on, but such coverage is at most 5 to 10 per cent of the total. The bulk of the coverage goes to showing the life of film stars, pop music, fashion parades, cricket and astrology.

(iv)Bomb blasts have taken place near the Delhi High Court, in Bombay, Bangalore etc. Within a few hours of such bomb blasts many T V channels started showing news item that Indian Mujahidin or Jaish-e-Mohammed or Harkatul-jihad-e-islam have sent e-mails or SMS claiming responsibility. The names of such alleged organizations will always be Muslim names. Now an e-mail can be sent by any mischievous person, but by showing this on TV channels and next day in the newspapers the tendency is to brand all Muslims in the country as terrorists and bomb throwers.

The truth is that 99% people of all communities, whether Hindu, Muslim, Christian or Sikh and of whatever caste or region are good. But the manner in which such news is shown on TV screens and published in the newspapers tend to create the impression that all Muslims are terrorists, and evil, which is totally false. The person who sends such e-mails or SMS obviously wants to create hatred between Hindu and Muslims, which is the old British divide and rule policy continuing even today. Should the media, wittingly or unwittingly, become part of this policy of divide and rule?

I have only referred to some of the defects in the Indian media. No doubt there are defects not only in the media but in other institutions also e.g. the judiciary, bureaucracy etc. but all of us must try to remove these defects.

There are two ways of removing these defects in the media. One is the democratic way, that is by discussions, consultations and persuasion, which is the method I prefer. The other way is by using harsh measures against the media e.g. by imposing heavy fines on the defaulters, stopping Government advertisements for them, suspending their licence etc.

In my opinion, in a democracy, we should first try the first method for rectifying the defects, namely the democratic method. It is for this purpose that I have decided to have regular get togethers with the media, including the electronic media, so that we can all introspect and ourselves find out ways and means of rectifying the defects in the media, rather than this being done by some government authority or external agency.

For this purpose, I propose to have such get togethers, like the one as we are having today, every two or three months, in which we will discuss issues relating to the media and try to think how we can improve the performance of the media so that it may win the respect and confidence of the people of the country.

Such meetings will not be formal meetings of the Press Council of India but only informal get togethers. No doubt, the electronic media is not under the Press Council of India Act, but surely there is nothing wrong in discussing matters relating to media with them also. After all, the ultimate purpose of the print media and the electronic media is the same, and journalistic ethics apply to both.

No doubt, if the media proves incorrigible, harsh measures may be required, but in my opinion that should be resorted to only as a last resort and in extreme situations. Ordinarily, we should first try to resolve the issues by discussion, consultation and self-regulation. That is the approach which should be ordinarily first tried in a democracy. I, therefore, respectfully request the Union Government to kindly defer implementation of its recent decision regarding the news channel license, so that we can ourselves discuss the issue thoroughly and ourselves take corrective measures in this connection.

Till now the function of the Press Council was only adjudication. I intend to make the Press Council an instrument of mediation in addition, which is in my opinion the democratic approach. For this purpose, I need the help and co-operation and advice of all of you.

Presently, India is passing through a transitional period in its history, the transition being from feudal agricultural society to modern industrial society. This is a very painful and agonizing period in history. If you have read the history of Europe from the 16{+t}{+h} to the 19{+t}{+h} Centuries, which was the transitional period there, you will find that this period was accompanied by tremendous turbulence, turmoil, wars, revolutions, social churning, chaos, intellectual ferment etc. It was only after going through this fire that modern society emerged in Europe. Presently, India is going through this fire. We are going through a very painful period in our history, which I think will last for another 20 years or so before modern industrial society emerges in India.

The media too must help society in going through this transitional period as quickly as possible, and by reducing the pain. This, it can do by attacking feudal ideas e.g. casteism and communalism and promoting modern scientific ideas.

Before I conclude, I once again repeat my appeal to the Indian Government through the Prime Minister to release Dr. Khalil Chisty who is in Ajmer Jail. He is 80 years old and has not very long to live. He was an eminent virologist in Karachi Medical College and was a Ph.D from Edinburgh University. He is a heart patient and has many other ailments also. He is unable to walk. In the name of humanity I appeal to the Indian Government to release him and allow him to get back to home in Karachi to his wife and daughter who live there. The Pakistan Government honoured my appeal and released Gopal Das from a Pakistani Jail. I am sad that the Indian Government has not yet honoured my appeal made several months ago to the Honble Prime Minister, the Honble Home Minister, and His Excellency the Governor of Rajasthan. In my opinion, the prestige of our country will be increased if Dr. Chisty is released, whereas if he dies in jail, we will be disgraced.

I now wish all of you to give your views.

Pakistan Deputy Attorney-general to Clean Shoes at Amritsar Golden Temple

Deputy Secretary General Khurshid Khan in a Sikh Temple
Muhammad Khurshid Khan was so upset at the killing of a Sikh man in Pakistan by a Taliban group that he decided to embark on a pilgrimage of service to Sikh and other religious places of worship as a form of penance for their actions.
Quite a remarkable story:
Pakistan deputy attorney-general to clean shoes at Amritsar Golden Temple

After spending several hours polishing the shoes of worshippers at Gurdwara Sisganj in New Delhi on Monday, where he was part of a Pakistan Supreme Court Bar Association delegation, Muhammad Khurshid Khan left for Amritsar, home of the Golden Temple and the centre of the Sikh religion, to clean thousands more.
He began his service pilgrimage after Jaspal Singh, one of three Sikh men kidnapped by Taliban militants in Peshawar in 2010, was murdered. The other two men were rescued by the Pakistani Army. Since then he has visited Sikh temples or Gurdwaras in Pakistan and India to declare his opposition to terrorism through sevadari service to other religions.
Mr Khan said he was so upset by the killing and his fear that it associated his own Muslim faith with terrorism that he went to sit on the steps of Peshawars Gurdwara Bhai Joga Singh. He felt a sense of peace, he told The Times of India, and resolved to visit other places of worship, including Hindu temples and Christian churches to offer his help.
I am a Muslim, not a terrorist; I am a Khan, not a terrorist; I am from Pakistan, but not a terrorist, he explained.
The Taliban had damaged Pakistans pluralistic heritage there are still Christian, Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities throughout the country but it was unfair to tarnish a whole community for the sins of a few, he said.
He visited his local Gurdwara every day for two months, where he read the works of the Sikh gurus, including Guru Nanak, and polished shoes. In both India and Pakistan, shoes are regarded as dirty, and touching the feet of another is an act of self-abasement and respect.
He was on Monday night travelling from New Delhi to Amritsar after Indias Sikh prime minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, indicated he had no objection to him continuing his pilgrimage at the Golden Temple.
Paramjeet Singh Sarna, president of Delhis Sikh Gurdawara Management Committee, said Mr Khans actions had moved Indian Sikhs.
There is always this underlying impression that every Pakistani is a radical but people like Khurshid have changed this image. His act has a message for the entire humanity. Although he as an individual didnt hurt or kill anybody he has shown remorse for the innocent victims of the Taliban in Pakistan, including a Sikh, by performing community service. We are thankful to him for everything he has done for the minorities in Pakistan, he said.

Bal Thackeray's death - A relief to India

In the end everyone meets death. When someone who was 86 years od and who spread so much hatred towards others, Southindians, Biharis, UP Bhayyas, Muslims, who migrated to Bombay to eek out a living by working hard under very difficut circumstances, the nation feels relief. India is an overpopulated country where 90% people survive in very difficult conditions.   Bombay is a very difficult city to live in - I lived there a couplle of years. But people stil flock to Bombay because they think they can earn their living there.

Yes, Marathis in Bombay are educationally and socially bckward. But in their own city they have all the opportunities; they do not have to migrate to a strange city. Thackray shoud have fought the system, private sector and govt to give more opportunities to Marathis, because they are sons of the soil there. But instead he spread hatred of others in the minds of Marathis and motivated them to commit violence against others. That was insanity and very harmful for the Indian nation. He made it his creed to especially harm Muslims in every possible way. That was awful.

Just as when Hiter and Nazis died the Jewish people felt relief and no remorse, today many Indian Musims, Southindians, Biharis,UP Bhayyas etc feel a sense of reief. I hope now the Marathi people, who are otherwise very nice people, will move away from Bal Thackray's legacy of hatred and instead will lend a hand to improving communal harmony, diversity and friendship among the people of India.
