As-Salaam alaikum,
The Noble Messenger of Allah, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, said:--
"Islam initiated [started] as something
strange, and it will revert to its (old
position) of being strange. So, glad tidings
to the stranger." [Sahih Muslim].
Today, we have become so distant from Islam that the way in which the Prophet, alaihis-Salaat Was-Salaam, did some things appears strange to us. Even people who welcome Islam in their lives find Muslims behaving strangely, which on further investigation turns out to be the recommended behaviour in Islam. So, we should not shy away from being perceived as strangers.
Someone asked the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, "Who are the Strangers"? He replied: "The ones who break away from their people for the sake of Islam."
The Prophet, alaihis-Salaat Was-Salaam, gave glad tidings to those who will be cut off from their people because they choose to follow Islam. Everybody else's lifestyle will have become so contrary to Allah's Wishes, that the person who follows Islam will appear strange and will be rejected.

This is an interesting Hadith and also provides hope for the Muslims. I believe that this Hadith refers to the End of Times. And it should not come as a shock that we are in the Last ages (Akhir-uz-zaman).
Since Islam began as something strange in the end times following the real teachings of Islam would be viewed as strange. But this presents a thought. Even though the Muslim population would be increased, still the true righteous way would be strange.
This brings to mind another Hadith.
The Prophet said,
" In the end times holding onto the truth (Islam) would be like holding onto hot coals"
I would request anyone who reads this to search and study Islamic Eschatology (study of the end times)
