Assalam alaikum,

In his book titled "ADMONITION FOR THE NEGLECTFUL", Faqih Abu Laith Samarqandi, may Allah be pleased with him, mentioned that carrying out 4 things and abstaining from another 4 things will protect one from punishment in the grave. The 4 things to practice are:--

1) Punctuality with Salaah

2) Abundant (regular) charity/sadaqa

3) Recitation of the Holy Qur'an

4) Abundance of Zikr (regularly)...and

the 4 things to avoid are:--

1) Lying

2) Misappropriation of Trust

3) Carrying tales

4) Droppings of urine (from contaminating the body and/or clothes)

The Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, has mentioned that punishment in the grave is usually due to droppings of urine.
