The head of the military history program at West Point has openly stated that the United States gained "not much" from 10.5 years of wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The program head, Col. Gian Gentile, concluded-- presumably in light of the cost of these wars in both blood and treasure-- that they had been "Certainly not worth the effort. In my view."
